I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband. The talk functions were way cool. All you need to do is say, "Hello iTalk" and it will respond with, "Can I help you". However, we'd frequently be talking to each other (and not saying anything that even remotely sounded like "hello iTalk"), and it would wake up and ask, "Can I help you". I am very happy with this product. As I was saying in the video, I compared the reviews to the Moshi Talking Alarm Clock (that you can also find on Amazon) but so many people were unhappy with the forced disco night light. The iTalk, on the other hand, is just your run of the mill alarm clock with the added function of voice commands which is all I wanted. I really like being told "Good morning, it is 8:30 AM" instead of being bombarded with an annoying sound but if you want the nerve wrecking sounds, you can still have it. Unlike one of the other reviewers, I had no trouble at all getting iTalk to understand what I'm saying as you can clearly hear in the video.

I would recommend this product to anyone lacking dexterity such as senior citizens and I would also recommend this product to anyone who just likes neat toys and/or being lazy.

The one feature I would like to see is the ability to disable the alarm with your voice if you wake up before the alarm sounds. As of right now, the only way to do that is to manually flip the switch in the back. Although, if you /wait/ until the alarm sounds, you can easily just say "Alarm Off".

I hope my video helps you make an informed purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected, October 30, 2010

Here are some points left out of the other reviews or in the Amazon description of the product, that might be useful to you:

There are two ways to Snooze the unit. You can say "Snooze". Or you can physically press down on the unit itself. The feet of the unit are actually buttons. So when you press down on the whole unit, it presses the buttons. This allows you to snooze the unit without having yell over your spouse or partner and wake them up too.

The buttons also serve as a trigger when you decide to not have it listen for the voice trigger. So rather than say "Hello ITalk" you can just press down on the unit. This is convenient if you find the voice trigger is often accidentally triggered by television or conversation noise, etc...

Also one other reviewer mentioned they would have liked to be able to turn off the alarm via voice before the alarm went off in case you happen to wake up early. The reason I suspect they disallowed this is to prevent any random noise from accidentally turning off the alarm before it goes off. So it's really a failsafe. Instead there is a hard switch that allows you to turn off the alarm in that event. This is a very sensible design feature to make sure you don't miss your alarm.

One other feature I recall that makes this unit different from the similar Moshi clock is that when the alarm does go off and you say "Alarm off", the clock keeps the alarm for the next day. The Moshi clock does not. You have to remember to set it. Again, this is a failsafe so you don't forget to enable the alarm the following day.

My last note is that while the time can be set with voice, the date cannot. Those require the use of the buttons at the back of the unit. This is not really a big deal since most bedside alarm clocks don't even have a date function.

Overall I am rather impressed by the design of the user-interface. The voice activation makes the clock much easier and faster to operate, and yet the designers have made sure that accidents won't happen that may cause you to miss an alarm.

1.0 out of 5 stars Really cool and worked great - for less than 6 months, July 9, 2010

At which point we'd have to stop our conversation long enough to yell "cancel" at the clock. This was only mildly annoying and mostly amusing. Otherwise we were really enjoying the clock. Then in about mid-May (remember, we'd only had it since Christmas), it stopped working suddenly and completely, and with no explanation. We were trying to set the alarm one night, and got no response at all from the clock. We tried setting it manually, but it doesn't seem to have any manual functions. It still shows the correct time, but that is ALL it does. There are no talk functions and no alarm. I'm still trying to find out if there is any warranty from the manufacturer.

Even if you don't use the Voice activated feature on this clock-this Clock Rocks! You will be impressed on how technically smart this clock is and simple to use. My 5-year old loves asking what time and day it is. I purchased this clock for someone who is visually impaired-but everyone gets a kick at asking the clock questions. I love how the alarm portion says "Good Morning" and annouces the time instead of a buzzer-another feature you can use with this clock. Real easy to set up & use-Highly Recommended-you won't be disappointed. hope this review helped!!

Works. I needed something big so I could see it better at night and the voice recognition works great. I don't have to get out of bed to snooze or turn it off. Setting the time is easy and takes hardly any time with voice commands.

Just received my iTalk a few days ago.

Pros:
Large Display; easy to read day or night (also has dimmer if you like to use it at night)
4 types of alarm sounds & low to high level audio output adjustment
Love the ability to snooze without banging around for a button somewhere...... you just say " snooze " ( or "alarm off" ) between sounds
Unit will announce the time, day of the week, date & year & the current time of the alarm as you ask for each (not all at the same time)
Unit does have battery backup available (batteries not provided: three (3): AAA You will not see a display while power is out, however,
you will not loose the time, alarm & the date. The alarm WILL function without the display showing.

Cons:
The units response to my speaking is not 100 %, it takes a time or two for the clock to get it right......but it is 90 % good
Would like to see added in future: ability to set two alarms for same day and a small digital display of each alarm time
Provide the necessary batteries
Auto set feature like the Emerson clocks have; ie, plug in and time is automatically set
For some: No AM / FM radio but I will say that the units that I had, which added a radio, reception was usually terrible

In conclusion, this is a great clock that is easy to use, nice wake-up sound / volume, nice snooze feature. I have no problem
of recommending it.

What a refreshingly wonderful, novel and different way to awaken & start your day. The words "Good morning, it is 10:40 AM" are pleasant instead of an assault by an annoying sound. But if you have a desire to return to those irritable sounds, you can still have them.

The Italk is an easy to use and sweet device which has big unobtrusive two inch red numerals and a nice semi-mechanical voice. You can ask Italk the time, tell her to let you snooze or order the alarm off without opening your eyes and going back to sleep as you wish.

The battery backup is nice as we all experience power failures. Yes, this clock doesn't lose its time when you install a battery. But if it does need an adjustment for a time change or new alarm, it is easy and idiot proof.

I am certain that like most other products on the market, there are some Italks that do not pass the quality test but slip through anyway. I did not get a lemon and have been quite happy with mine for the last few months. But fixing your problems is what Amazon's great customer service was designed for.

In future versions, the following changes would be nice: (1) An adjustable alternative to the pleasant female voice, maybe a male; (2) A softer or louder voice volume; (3) Three lights for the display, although the current one is super sweet, even for someone visually impaired or who is annoyed with lights in the room; and, (4) An AM/FM radio.

Whether you are visually impaired or just want a very nice voice activated alarm clock for you, a friend or a kid, Italk is a great value.

Buy it for yourself or a thoughtful gift for anyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for a while then gone, December 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: iTalk Clock with Voice Command Response LED Alarm Clock (Watch)
I have purchased two of these before. They were the model with the Reminder feature. Both of them stopped working within less than one year. One day it just quit speaking or recognizing voices after a few days of the voice getting more and more garbled before it died.

Pros:

Nice to be able to set alarms and such without having to mess with pressing combinations of sometimes confusing buttons on other alarm clocks. Nice to be awakened by a soothing female voice.

Cons:

Very awkward to set up initially as the buttons are on the back of the unit and the display is on the front. You pretty much need two people, one using the buttons and the other telling you what is displayed - or spend a lot of time trying to hit the right buttons at the right time without being able to see them while you are looking at the display.

Both clocks stopped working (except displaying the time) within a year.

Lack of customer service. Never found a way to contact anybody.

Display, even on LOW, IS WAY TOO BRIGHT to be able to sleep in the same room without wearing a black-out mask over your eyes. You can almost read by it with it sitting across the room.

Lack of automatic setting of time and date.

But still I bought another one. This time without the reminder feature as this model has an improvement or two - none of which address any of the above CONS.

Great clock. Find myself using the verbal commands to shut off the daily alarm. It would have been great if there was a function to verbally call off the alarm prior to the alarm time when needed.
