iTouchless Commercial Size Stainless Steel Trashcan, 22 Gallon (83 Liter)

I purchased this can to replace a "Simple Human" round 8 gallon trash can. The iTouchless had a slight problem upon arrival. The lid would only open half way when used in "automatic" mode. Went right to the returns section of Amazon.com and it was resolved with new can in hand by the NEXT day!!

This can works great, it holds a TON of stuff and it looks nice in a "country" kitchen. I find that the sensor is not overly sensitive. It is situated in a way that it faces up as opposed to down where it would pick up foot traffic and open. With two dogs, they do not set it off (medium sized dogs that are about 3 ft. tall).

Had some family over yesterday and they all admired it and had to try it out! Get one, you will not be sorry!

**UPDATE**: It's been TWO years now and the can is still going strong!! No problems whatsoever! (knock on wood!!)

I really enjoyed the 22 gallon iTouchless trashcan. I received it on or about August 3, 2007 and had absolutely no problems assembling it. I received the adapter a few days later and could not possibly have been happier.

That is, until the motion detector stopped working. I tried cleaning it, turning it off and on, changing the batteries, changing the electrical outlet. Nothing worked.

I emailed Amazon and the manufacturer. No reply from 2 emails to the manufacturer. Amazon's policy is: over 30 days, you're out of luck.

Now I have a nice garbage can that I paid $179.00 (can and adaptor) for that doesn't work. :)

I love this product! I had an 18 gal. automatic can, but it was destroyed due to children slamming the can lid. I was thrilled when this arrived (I have to admit I was spoiled by the auto sensor and not having to touch a dirty trash can). The auto sensor was the main reason I wanted the can, but the size and shape are better than I thought. The trash bags fit perfectly and I can get almost a weeks worth of trash in one bag, as opposed to a day and a half in the square 18 gal. size. Which is a great feature when you pay for trash pick up by the bag! I also noticed that the gears that open the can are metal, as opposed to the plastic ones in the smaller size cans; which, hopefully, will prevent little hands from slamming the lid and stripping the gears.

I don't think there is one single household item that has made more of a difference than this trash container. Before this can, our trash bin filled every day. This can is truly hands free! No greasy fingers making marks or sticky messes because you simply wave your hand over the eye and the lid opens. No sticky fingerprints or sticky substances inside the trash bin either. The mouth opens up wide enough to fit a cutting board inside to scrape off peelings, etc. I cannot recommend this product highly enough. Make sure you purchase the AC adapter which is an additional $19.99. Without it, you will be sure to go through many D batteries.

Bought this in Nov 2007, and love it. Last week (June 2009) it just stopped working correctly - didn't close; opened only when you pushed the button; otherwise a mess. Replacing batteries didn't help. Googled and called the company and they said to turn the mechanism off; take out batteries and leave them out for six hours; replace batteries; then turn it back on. Works perfectly again. Also, they said that they have a year guarantee, and if this didn't fix the problem within the year, it would still be under guarantee. Love the can -- would replace it in a heartbeat.

I have had cheap plastic ones,expensive (but not worth it) simple human ones, step lids, no lids and manual lidded cans. This can really is the best. My wife and I used to empty the trash daily, now it's weekly and the sealed lid/trash bag retainer ring keeps all the funky smells inside. We have the 22gal model and use 35 gal black trash bags that you can buy in bulk.

The can is very sturdy thick steel (much more stable when compared to the simple human can I had before.) The sensor and lid work great. We didn't opt for the AC power pack at first and that was a mistake because I could have saved on shipping. Don't walk, run and buy this can. It looks great, is functional and worth every penny.

iTouchless finally got it right this time. This is my third product from them, and this one is by far the best. Quiet, great capacity, and looks great in our kitchen! Get the discounted price, and you won't be disappointed.
1 year update: Infrared sensor will not allow lid to close. A call to itouchless has me doing some very basic troubleshooting. They will ship replacement parts under 1 year warranty, but I have to pay for shipping.

Now for the lucky few.. this will be my choice of housewarming gift. This is awesome... loving it so far after 4 weeks of use.

We're using this 22 gallon to supplement our 13 gallon which fills up in 2 days. It definitely takes a lot, and although is relatively large (covers a large tile and comes up to just below the counter), it isn't too large that you can't find a place for it. And it does look sleek, and the large opening is a real benefit.

However, 2 cautions if you're considering this:
1) if you fill it to the brim, the trash can get extremely heavy! Make sure you use a good quality trash bag, and perhaps consider emptying it before it gets completely full or only fill it with lighter weight stuff like empty cartons, plastic, etc. There was once we needed 2 persons to lug the full trash bag out.

2) do get the adapter. Because of its capacity, it gets used quite a bit and the batteries will wear out pretty quickly.

The color on the web site looks a little dark so i was really worried about it. The trash can came wrapped awsome, my[...] is having a blast in the styrphome box made for the trash can. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recomended this item!
