Terrible, barely functioning dictionary, May 19, 2007
This review is from: iTravl Speech to Speech Japanese to/from English Electronic Translator TL-2Jp (Electronics)
The dictionary itself is a mess. If you try looking up person, you get vinegar as a translation. Furthermore many of the definitions are either vague or just plain impossible to understand. Many words in the dictionary cannot be accessed via just romanji, you have to use Kana or Kanji to find them, which really means you need to speak and write japanese to use this japanese dictionary.
The speech recognition is usless as it is limited only to the phrase book, which you have to navigate down several subsections until there is only 2-3 choices anyhow, its easier to use the stylus. The speech ability of the dictionary is usless as it is a robotic voice which is unrecognizable.
The dictionary will return results in Romanji, Kana, or Kanji, but only one at a time. If you wanted to look up a word using romanji and see its Kanji character... you cant. Further more, the keyboard on the dictionary does not contain the characters for the B, J, Z, D, P sets of the kanas, so many words are impossible to look up.
The dictionary is huge and is embarresing and a hassle to carry around.
The daily alarm does not work.
The flash card system only works for romanji.
The return policy is 7 days, which means if you get the machine on a monday you have no time to try it out before you can make it to a post office to send it back by Friday. I contacted the company stating these problems and more, and they refused any return or even an exchange.
Buyer beware.
