For more than 30 years, master glassblowers have been bringing to life the imaginative bird designs of celebrated Finnish artist Oiva Toikka. Each objet d'art of colored crystal glass is handblown and decorated using filigree techniques and a palette designed by Toikka specifically for his glass bird series. This color-splashed bullfinch has a black head atop a red neck and breast; its body and tail are white with shades-of-gray feather details. The piece carries Toikka's signature and a collector's tag for authenticity, and it comes wrapped in iittala tissue paper in a gift box. Highly collectible, this glass bird makes a treasured gift or home décor showpiece. Handmade at iittala's glassworks in Nuutajärvi, Finland, the bullfinch design was released in 1994. The piece measures 3.5 by 4.1 inches.

Iittala does sell the products that don't pass quality control at their factory in Helsinki. The bird I received was definitely one of them - the glass head was warped and the color was off considerably. I've seen the originals that the factory does sell and this one would not have passed muster.
