5.0 out of 5 stars A Unique PNC (Philatelic Numismatic Combinations) Reference, August 30, 2000
By
Jim Opperman (Bakersfield, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: No illusions philatelic numismatic combinations catalog (Spiral-bound)
This exceptional reference catalog contains over 6,400 international PNC listings, organized by Producer. A Philatelic Numismatic Combination is defined in this reference catalog as any stamped, postal service cancelled (postmarked) card, envelope or other "carrier" device which also contains a suitably mounted coin, medal or other "numis" that commemorates a significant event or theme represented by both the stamp and the "coin" item. If the numis is not a coin or medal (as most frequently found) it can be any type of collectible item that befits the occasion. Some producer have encapsulated items such as buttons, embossed objects, stamp replicas, ingots, shells, tokens or elongated coins, etc. Most producers incorporate some type of graphic enhancement presentation to make the cachet more decorative and presentable, while some may even include hand painted features done by professional artists. The database format makes it easy for the user to identify the specific components that went into making each PNC issue. A revised electronic edition can be found on [Quality of Life Mentor] web site at http://qolm.atsecure.net, showing recent issues and pricing. This wonderful PNC collectible hobby started in 1964 with the John F. Kennedy 90% silver half-dollar, first day of issue and corresponding JFK postage stamp. Beginning in 1999 the U. S. Mint began issuing the 50-State Commemorative Quarters' series of coins in PNC-type format, five per year, in the order of statehood, and continuing through 2008. In addition to the 50-State Quarter series, the U.S. Mint also has a PNC with the new golden Sacagawea dollar. Many new PNC collectors have joined the older collectors and will find this PNC reference catalog an essential part of their collector's kit.
