I'd been eyeing these teacups for sometime now, but was a bit worried because a few other reviews mentioned a slight leak at the bottom of the cup. I finally ordered the hidden bear teacup and the hidden fox one, however, and I'm pleased to say that we've experienced no issues with liquids seeping out at all. Ordering them through Amazon is $4 - $5 cheaper than the prices I've seen in the boutique near my house, too.
The cups are so beautiful in person. The china is thin but not too delicate that you feel as though you have to be too careful; the outside is smooth and pleasurable to touch; the handle is sturdy; and the animals are so, so cute! It's a joy to drink from them every single time, and so much so that we've been finding excuses to use them. Love love love.

These are fabulous. However, you MUST use a saucer; preferably with a napkin to catch the condensation. The cup has a tiny hole in the bottom of each critter that leaks. Having said that, I bought 6 because they are so unique and fun.

I bought one of each of these hidden animal mugs in the series (bear, fox, owl). The description states they hold 2 cups each. In my experience, this is wrong. The bear cup will at most hold comfortably 1 & 1/2 cups of liquid - you CAN put more liquid in the cup, but then you're dealing with liquid at the top seam of the cup which will spill at the slightest quake, and that is not the normal level to which most people fill their cups (with 1/4-1/2 inch buffer from the top at most). The sizes are actually different for all the animals. The fox is the largest (good for about 2 & 1/4 cup) while the owl is the middle size (good for about 2 cups).
All the cups have a hole in the bottom of the cup (probably required puncture for the firing process of the ceramic - apparently the ceramic animal is hollow). There is no leak of the actual beverage from the cup through this hole because the animal is sealed securely to the inside of the cup, BUT if you use the dishwasher to wash these cups and place them upside down in the washer (obviously), you might get water that enters into that cavity between the underside of the cup and the inside of the animal through that small hole puncture in the bottom. Then, when you flip the cup over and use it to drink, you might (as I do regularly) get "leaking" out of the water that crept in there during dishwashing. At least it's basically clean water, but this is a minor irritation since it's inevitable I will find a small puddle on the table from this.... Read more ›

This cup is absolutely adorable. It is huge, and would be PERFECT for my morning cup of coffee except for one major problem...it leaks. A lot. As in--enough to completely saturate a folded paper towel in about thirty seconds. I've tried it with both hot coffee, and cold water.
I am unsure if the problem I am having is limited to the cup I received--but when I turned it over to find out why in the world it was leaking, I saw a small but visible hole in the bottom of the mug. It's a little smaller than the tip of a ballpoint pen. This wouldn't be a problem if the bear was completely sealed to the inside of the mug, but mine is not. He is sealed most of the way around, except for a tiny section near one of his paws. So the liquid flows under this section of the bear, and right out the hole in the bottom of the cup.
I would guess that I just recieved a rare "bad" mug, except a previous reviewer that mentioned the mug he bought for his wife occasionally leaks. Mine is worse than an occasional leak, but really, in something that's purpose is solely to hold liquid--no leak is acceptable.
The problem is that this mug is just SO DARN CUTE. If I had noticed this problem before I threw out all the packaging and return slip, I would have just exchanged it for another one...but as it is, I am probably just going to try and seal it myself.

IN SHORT: I purchased this for my wife and she loves it. The cup is not microwave safe, but dishwasher safe. Also, I've noticed on rare occasion, tiny amounts of tea will seep out from under the bear.

The cup is huge! With coffee in it, it hides the bear at the bottom of the cup, looking up. The quality of the cup is marvelous--a rich white, and very durable. Definately a cup for a guy who has the tendency to be a little rough with cups. With your usual cup, there is no suprise at the bottom--only coffee grounds. After you have had at least a half of the coffee or tea or etc. the surprise of the bear looking at you reminds you to drink faster so you won't be late for work! It's 'down the hatch" or late for work. A guy should't say this but the cup with the hidden bear brings a little charm to an otherwise charmless working world!
