The former climate skeptic Richard Muller has written that An Inconvenient Truth consists of "half truths." I believe that Muller as reputable a scientist as he is has misunderstood the necessity of simplifying complex science for the general reader. Some of the information presented in Una Verdad Incómoda is outdated, but in every area that Gore treated 6 years ago whether it be increased climate temperatures, permafrost melt, glacier retreat, flooding, sea rise, drought, infectious disease spread-- all affected by man made greenhouse gases, current responsible science has confirmed their fundamental accuracy. Good science is one dimension of the book ; affirmation of human value through the interweaving of family in the narrative
is another dimension that gives a certain elegance to the work. Gore's compassion and integrity shine in his account of his family's struggles to overcome the loss of his sister Nancy to lung cancer and the pain of their own indirect contribution to her death as a family that raised tobacco, illustrating the truth that it is often our every day actions that cause our downfall. In the current world of self-serving politicians, Gore's commitment to preserving climate is a rare thing, which if undertaken by more leaders would lead to the survival of ourselves and of other species and would be the greatest affirmation of human value.
