2.0 out of 5 stars Relic from Griffith's Erstwhile Biographer, October 14, 2004
This review is from: An index to the creative work of David Wark Griffith (Gordon Press film series)
This title compiles a series of monographs originally issued as supplements to the British film periodical "Sight and Sound" in the 1940s. Stern intended to cover all of Griffith's work chronologically, sort of a one man proto-"Griffith Project," but he got no further than HEARTS OF THE WORLD.

As it stands, this may have been a good reference in its time, but it has since been surpassed by more recent works. Additionally, Stern has a reputation for unreliability among many film scholars. While I have not personally checked his facts, I *do* know that he was a Griffith partisan and that his work suffers from a marked lack of objectivity. Given all of the above, I would recommend this title to Griffith completists exclusively.
