is the wrapping anything special?

At the hospital they showed us how to fold down one corner of the blanket and set the baby down "diagonally" on it. Then wrap one side corner over, then the bottom corner up, and finally the other side around.

Does this book have other variations?

No, it is essentially the same, but emphasizes putting the arm straight down at the sides as you wrap. Some babies fight this until they can bring the arms up to the middle and some until they are free.
