Una gran pieza literaria latinoamericana/ A great piece of Latin-American literature,

It is too soon to talk about the future of this piece. Nonetheless, I can assure that it is already among the greatest pieces of Latin-American literature. It takes places in the times of the rebel slaves that claimed liberty and a more just system, the origins of the Haitian Revolution. Great beginning and terrific ending. The way she links those two is amazing. Recommended.

I had a problem with the first shipping, because the book was in bad condition, and i bought it to give it as a present to my wife. I send a mail to Amazon and they sent me a new book in five days. I'm very glad with Amazon, and I'm saying it to all my friends and family. I will buy at Amazon.com and I recommend everybody that do the same.
It's a very good book and I think that (for me) it could be the best book by Isael Allende. Sorry for my poor english but I'm spanish and it's hard to me to do this. Thank you and best regards.

I have been a fan of Isabel Allende for many years and read most of her books. For some reason, I was expecting something different, or at least an evolution, from her latest work. I did not find it in "La Isla bajo el mar." It is Isabel's same style, no evolution, and it felt like a re-hashed story: to the point that she mentions the arahuacs as the natives of La Hispanola when she should have mentioned the taino indians. Again, entertaining story but if you are looking for some growth or change...this is not the book for you.

If you are a fan of Isabel Allende, you are going to truly enjoy this book. Her narrative is always fascinating and the women in her novels are always strong and resilient, true warrioresses. I got this book because I belong to a small book club. We read 100 pages or so and then get together to discuss the book. However, when I sarted reading it I just could not put it down until I finished. I know the same thing happened to two other members or the club. Then, it was hard for us to talk about those 100 pages only every time we met, but we didn't want to spoil the fun for the rest of the group.I highly recommend this book.

Not a serious investigation, not a light novel, not a book to recall. I will not read her anymore in Spanish because she is just a "copy cat" of other great Spanish language writers. It is better to read her in English where you cannot compare or find this "influences". Isabel Allende took advantage of the boom of Haiti in the news to hit the public witha novel that pretended to deal with serious issues as Haitian Revolution, Immigration trends, etc. But, once you start reading, you realize that all the topics are rushed out. What a Waste!!!!

In general, I love Isabel Allende's novels with a strong heroine. This time the depiction of slavery in Haiti and the research it show is very impressive. The story is fast paced and very readable.

Isabel Allende is my favorite writer. She's a wonderful story teller that has the power to transport you inside her novels. Her descriptions of time and place are so accurate that it's like seeing a film. Hooray for Mrs. Allende!
