Nice weight for kettlebell novices,

I picked this weight up to use with Jillian Michaels: Shred-It With Weights. I had been using a 3 pound hand weight and wanted something with more heft but which I could handle. This weight suits my needs perfectly. It is about 6 inches across and 6 1/2 inches from base to top of the handle. The handle is smooth but textured enough so it stays in a sweaty palm. The diameter of the handle is pretty small but large enough to be comfortable for those of us with decent sized hands. I wanted a cast iron kettlebell to avoid the issues others have had with sand and I also like the vinyl coating over the base of the bell. I have knocked my wrist with the kettlebell on several occasions and can't say that was a particularly good time. I do have to admit it was pretty much entirely my own ineptitude and, sadly, can't be blamed on the weight.I have noticed you can get similar kettlebells for a bit less in brick and mortar stores. I can't compare them to this one as all the places I checked were sold out when I went to look. With shipping I think this item is fairly priced. Recommended for those looking for a lightweight kettlebell.

What a workout!,

This kettlebell will give you a great workout. I have definitely lost inches from my hips and thighs (my problem areas) and built upper body strength. I did a workout from Prevention magazine using the kettlebell and it worked. Believe me I am dripping sweat from just a 20 minute workout and it really gets my heart rate up. I was unsure which weight to get but since I had been using 10 pound free weights, I wanted to be challenged a bit more so I chose the 15 pound kettlebell. It is well constructed and though I do have callouses on my hands, it is easy to handle.

Probably Too Heavy for Some Beginners,

I bought this kettlebell along with two kettlebell videos and an instruction booklet. Found that it was too heavy initially, I can handle the 15 pounds for short durations, but the videos are 40 and 50 minutes in length. Ended up buying a ten pound kettlebell which I now use 70% of the time. J-Fit kettlebells are nice quality, so my problems had nothing to do with the product itself.

This Kettlebell has a nice wide handle for easy gripping. You can easily grip it with both hands. The vinyl coating helps to protect your floors and the flat bottom helps it to stay put once you set it down. The orange color is nice, too.

I have been an avid weight lifter for years, but never went for the pretty boy look of body builders. If you are interested in building core strength, kettlebells work. What I also like about kettlebells is that they don't take up the room that an olympic bar and bench would consume.

Bought this kettlebell to strength cross-train for my upcoming marathon and am very pleased. It is comfortable and easy to manuever. It was damaged during shipment (little dent in the vinyl) but I decided not to worry about it because I was so anxious to use it.

The wide grip on this kettlebell is far superior to cheaper kettlebells. Doing two handed exercises is much more comfortable. There's not much more to say that the other two reviewers (Michele and Elizabeth) haven't already said. Great product.

Great Addition To A Home Gym,

A local gym I used to go to had these kettlebells and I was so impressed with them I purchase some for home use. The gym had the more "rustic" bare iron ones as well and while they get the job done, they tended to have more burrs on the grip. The J/Fit models are a step up and the vinyl coating lets me use it on my tile floor without leaving any marks or chinks, or loud clangs when I set them down. The wide handle is roomy enough for two-handed exercise and I always get a good grip. After several months of use the vinyl coating still isn't showing much wear.If you are just starting out you may want to begin with lighter weights and proper instruction. But if you have some experience and know what you want, J/Fit is a quality brand to go with. ~ Kort

Disappointed in quality for price,

For the cost of this item (almost $2.5/pound) I am rather disappointed in the quality. FYI, this came in a mfg box that was shipped to Amazon, and Amazon shipped that inside a larger box to me. The bell came with the finish damaged on almost the entire handle, rust spots and also medium, jagged burrs that are directly in the gripping area. Without sanding, these will certainly rip up my hands, which is why I give this 2 stars. That kind of quality makes no sense on a product that will see heavy handle usage. I am further disappointed because I just happened to be at Walmart a few hours ago before I got home and opened this box, where I saw Gold's Gym kettle bells that have a rubber coating on them which I liked quite a bit, and they were significantly less. (about $1.5/pound) I did a lot of kettle bell comparison and never came across these in general searches, which is why I am mentioning them. I looked them up online when I got home and they are neoprene coated which gives them a little more shock absorption and traction than the vinyl, though they probably aren't as easy to clean as the vinyl. I am not a particular fan of the Gold's Gym brand, but I can already tell you my next kettle bell purchase will be one of those. It is worth noting that I also bought the 25lb bell from J Fit which arrived in a much better condition with very minor finish damage on the under handle, no rust and no burrs. Though, it does have a cross-slash about 1/2" wide in the vinyl. It was also packaged with a soft liner in the mfg box, whereas the 20lb was not. *update* Also note, my hands are about 3 1/2" wide from pinky to index across the knuckles. I cannot fully grip this with both hands wrapped comfortably: I end up leaving my pinkies on the outside. However, there is just enough clearance on the 25lb one. |
