It also comes with a dual-voltage power supply and dual NTSC/PAL video-format outputs for use (with an appropriate AC power adapter and an appropriate TV) in Europe or Asia, as well as in its native United States. (Please note that the player's region coding is set for Region 1, so foreign DVDs will only play if they're non-region-encoded.)
Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the JD-VD145 stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television. (If your older TV has no colored RCA video input jacks, merely a threaded RF audio/video input, you'll need a video modulator/switcher, sold separately.)
A set of left/right analog audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Additionally, 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.
Other features include picture zoom, a screen saver, and parental controls. Weighing just 4.4 pounds, the JD-VD145 is easily transportable between rooms or even to a friend's house.
What's in the Box
DVD player, remote control, remote batteries, user's manual, a stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable, and a US AC power cord.

I know that everyone seems to be dogging this item...but I've had mine for several months and have had no problems at all with it. It was in expensive, we use it all the time, and it works. I can't complain at all. It looks nice to boot

I bought this unit a few months ago for $35. It worked for a while and then all of the sudden in the middle of a movie the picture just went out. So now, I can still play videos/CDs and listen to the sound - but I cannot SEE anything on the screen!
I guess you get what you pay for. Maybe they should market this unit as a "disposable DVD player" and knock 10 bucks off the price! Oh yeah, one other VERY annoying thing about this unit is that there is a VERY BRIGHT BLUE LIGHT that flashes when a movie is not playing. You have to turn the power COMPLETELY OFF to make the light stop flashing. The remote control will not turn the power completely off either (designed this way for some reason) so you have to manually go over to the unit and push the power button to make the darn thing stop flashing. I guess it's not a HUGE deal, but when you're lazy and spoiled like me and you're used to everything being controlled from a single remote - it gets annoying after a while.
