Projection time set separately from display time,

The clock is okay. The strange part is that you set the time on the display and the projection separately. That's kind of strange. And when you have the radio on, the station appears in the display instead of the time. Not just for long enough to find the station, but as long as you have it on. I wasn't expecting either of those "features" on the clock.

The clock do it's job, the time projected on the ceiling is really convinence and looks good during the night. Downside: the time glare on the clock (blue light) is too bright and I have to covered every night.

repeat user of projection clock,

formerly had JL 707 which died of old age. like the new model JL360
although the alternating radio/time flashing is a bit disconcerting as one of your previous reviews commented. Packing did not hold up well, arrived in torn container and damaged box but product seems to be working satisfactorily. This one is better looking overall than the 707.

the laser display on the top is nifty but not really flexible, it can move vertically but not horizontally

Setting clock time is easy, but setting projector time separately is bit odd....high sound with some disturbance....overall I liked it.
projector shows up only if its too dark.

The clock has a nice large led display. The projection clock is red & the led display is blue. They also have to be set seperately, I did not realize that (minor inconvenience.) The low profile of the volume & tuning knobs makes it difficult to adjust. They also seem a little tight & the frequency tends to drift sometimes. This unit does not have a headphone jack. Also when the radio is playing, you cannot display the led clock, however the projection clock still works, but invisible in daylight. A special button cell type battery is needed for the clock back up that is not included with radio. Lastly, you cannot shut off the projection clock if the alarm mode is in cycle, you have to shut the alarm off first. Overall, I would say the good outweigh the bad with this model. The price was a bargain for its type. The lack of headphone jack is the biggest inconvenience for me & could be for others as well. There are probably better choices, but like anything else I'm sure it will be at a premium cost.

I was attracted to this clock-radio because of the time projection feature, and have not been disappointed. The ability to read the time on the bedroom ceiling is a definite advantage when laying on one's back. Everything else works as expected in a typical clock-radio, and the price is appropriate to the product.

Got this for my parents and it has been almost six months and no complaints. The projection is bright and the angle is quite flexible. I would recommend this product if you do not want to sit up and see the time. Just project it onto the wall or the ceiling (The projection might be a little slant as the clock wouldn't directly be under you but it will be readable). My folks are not very technology oriented but they have learned to use it just fine. They just ignore the Radio part of the clock as it takes time to learn it. All in all, a good, reliable product.

Tuning of radio was poor. Projection light direction can not be changed. The image on the wall would have worked fine if the face of the clock was towards the wall. However, that was not possible.

I wanted an alarm clock that projected the time on the wall/ceiling for a while. I got this one and overall I'm pretty happy with it. Before buying, there are some things that you should know:
1. The display is BRIGHT! I have a waterbed, so the clock is within a foot of my face. Almost every night I wake up in the middle of the night and put a pillow over the display because its so bright. Its ok though, because the time is projected onto the ceiling, so I can still see it. 2. You have to set the main clock separately from the projection part. So, unless you sync it up just perfect, its not unusual for the display to show a different time than what's projected onto the ceiling. 3. Not that it's a big deal, but the display and projection are two different colors. Display: blue, projection: red 4. If you set the sleep timer on the radio, it shows the minutes remaining until shut off on the display instead of the time. That's irritating, but I guess since the time is projected onto the ceiling, its not a big deal. 5. When the alarm goes off (if you have it set to music), it shows the radio station on the display instead of the time. WTF? Good thing there are two ways to get the time on this thing! 6. The snooze is only five minutes long. I wish it was at least twice that. 7. The radio tuner is VERY sensitive. I have one station set when I put the sleep timer on, and inevitably it changes (only by a number or two) by the time the alarm goes off in the morning. For example, I have it on 94.1FM when I set the sleep timer. When the alarm goes off (I have it set to music), it has mysteriously moved to 94.0 (and therefore very staticky). BARELY touching the dial will tune it back. Weird. 8. If you choose to wake to the alarm, be prepared! This mother is LOUD and there's no turning it down...so hopefully you have it across the room from your bed. 9. There are a million little buttons on the top of the clock, and they're all the same size (almost). So when you're in a half-sleep stupor and the LOUD alarm is going off, there's no nice big fat snooze button to hit so you have to hunt for it. Unfortunatly, the alarm on/off button and snooze are very close together, so there was more than one occasion I hit the alarm off button instead of snooze and ended up late for work. Finally, I took a piece of 2-way sticky tape and put it on the snooze button so that I could find it in my sleepy haze. It's worked like a charm! |
