I've recently re-discovered Eleanor Cameron's books, having become a Mushroom Planet fan at a very young age over 45 years ago! This book was new to me at my "advanced age" but it captured my imagination. The character Julia is so well portrayed--her frustrations with the adults in her life, her fascination with the calamity of the great San Francisco earthquake her uncle tells about, and her deep feelings for the special pets that she comes to know. The book has humor and a touch of the mystical. The plot is entertaining, and the conclusion, satisfying. I look forward to reading more of the Julia books and other books by this gifted author.
