I had a problem with the original Kindle leather case (non-light) that I received for Christmas. My Kindle froze and I immediately called support and they explained that it was the case and they put a refund into my account.

I did some research and found out that the hooks that go into the Kindle are not hard plastic, as they look and feel, but are actually painted metal. If the paint chips or is too thin, it creates a partial circuit in the Kindle that essentially freaks out the Kindle. I eventually had to send the Kindle that used that cover back because I suspect the internal damage was too much.

I began shopping around for a new case and I LOVED this Kate Spade cover. Like a passionate, obsessive love where I dreamed about it every night. Knowing what I knew about the covers, however, I knew I had to take precautions. I emailed Kate Spade corporate and was told they were 99% sure it was hard plastic in their versions of the Kindle covers (even though I told them the official Kindle covers LOOKED like hard plastic but were actually painted metal). I also called Kate Spade and left a voicemail but never heard back.

I decided to trust 99% because, after all, that's pretty good but I was a darn lovestruck fool. Now my Kindle won't sync to the most recent page read when I put it to sleep and it restarts constantly.

The cover does look beautiful however so maybe I can find something to do with this and my other defective Kindle cover. I'm amassing quite the collection now.

I received this Kate Spade Kindle cover for Christmas and have used it every day since. The cover is pink and red canvas with piping in red leather. The Kindle fits snuggly with the clips - had no problems clipping it in. There is no flapping once it is in place.

The only issue I've noticed is that the inside of the cover can rub against the keypad of the Kindle - the red dye in the canvas has left a light red stain on a few of the buttons. It wipes off so it's not a big deal. After this I would be careful outside with sweaty, damp or suntan lotioned hands as I could see the dye transferring.

It's a beautiful color combination. The red and bright pink strip is vibrant and I've had a lot of compliments. The cover stays closed without a clasp. It's a simple Kate Spade design - worth the price in my opinion. If you're looking for a stylish cover for everyday reading then this is for you!

I too started with the Amazon non-lighted cover that caused the Kindle to Reboot continuously, among other issues. I was given a refund for my cover and a "service credit" to encourage me to purchase the Amazon lighted cover. I choose to purchase this Kate Spade cover instead. The Kate Spade Cover had the same issues. Customer service informed me that any further refunds/services credits could only be applied toward the AMAZON LIGHTED KINDLE COVER! The bottom line is that the defect is with the Kindle, and it grossly unfair to leave unflattering comments for these various manufactures. ( If you skim the boards you will find that basically every Kindle cover that is hinged has these complaints of the device re-booting.) How unfortunate that reputable companies are having their reputations maligned unnecessarily. Amazon knows full well that their PRODUCT is defective, yet they allow and continue to profit from the manufacture of hinged covers.

Who wants to drop $200 bucks & then be told this product is so defective you can only use THIS hinged cover....
WHAT A JOKE!!!! ( The lighted amazon cover)
