My son, Jacob (age 7.5) has just finished reading Vol. 8, "Captain Underpants and the Preposterous Plight of the Purple Potty People" to me out loud. It is the latest and last (so far) in the Captain Underpants series. The author and illustrator, Dav Pilkey, is an awesome talent. All the C.U. books contain sci-fi adventure built for children and are filled with super power juice, hypno-rings, time travel, alternate universes, evil teachers and principals, grandparents, robots and so on. They are also filled with humor (most of it, despite the titles, in exceedingly good taste) that appeals to the kids as well as to their parents (mean teacher Miss Anthrope), albeit perhaps at different levels. I laughed out loud consistently as my son read these to me. The dialog is snappy and cute, as are the illustrations and the books within books (comics drawn by the main characters, Harold and George complete with little kid illustrations and misspellings) that punctuate all the entries in the series.

A reasonable reading skill level (2 grade and above) is required for these and they are definitely better read BY children than TO children but are as enjoyable to adults as to their kids. These are great. Highly recommended.

We have been reading the series every night and not only does my son enjoy them, but I often cannot put them down and have to read yet another chapter. Just good fun, as well some complex vocabulary that presents with teaching opportunities. What a great collection. I do recommend getting the first 4 volumes though.

Captain Underpants Collection was read by my 10 year old son. He enjoyed the book alot and thought it was a funny story.

My 7 year old son who, is currently in the 1st grade, has found a LOVE for reading through The Captain Underpants Collection books! Mainly because the books make him giggle and wonder with a little bit of mystery. Due to his newfound love of reading, his reading level has improved at school too.

A most excellent series for my boys, who are 7 and 9. My 9 year old read the series of books in about 4 or 5 days...riveted.

I read a review that kids really love these books, so I ordered them. My grandson (just turned 9) reads them to me over Skype, reads them on his own, takes them to school to read. He loves them. There are clever passages that surprise the reader. I don't recall the exact wording, but one example is a scene where it said something like "He hit the ball so hard it went right through page 91" -- on Page 91 of the book itself is a drawing of a hole where the ball went through. That was unexpected fun for my grandson. I would recommend these books based on my grandson's enthusiasm.

We love Captain Underpants books, so we were certainly not disappointed with these. They are longer than the first three books, which is great. Also, I didn't realize when I ordered these books that they come in a really cute Captain Underpants box and include an adorable inflatable Captain Underpants. Needless to say, we were very pleased with this purchase!

My son and I had a great time reading the whole series. We are wondering if the author is going to write anymore in this series. My son is a little behind on his reading and these books made it fun for him.

The formula is getting a little tired, but my 7 and 5 year old sure do crack up reading these.

My 9-year old really enjoys the Captain Underpants series. There is a lot of potty humor, but it's the first time I've seen my son read with enthusiasm. He constantly laughs outloud when he's reading these books. He's even drawing comics like the ones in the book.
