You'll forget you're awake.,
By
This review is from: The land behind the world
This book captures a strange and unique 'dream-sense', reminding the reader of the sensation of dreams; a rare quality in writing. It is highly imaginative, a little New-Agey if you're into that, but even if you're not (like myself) it is a most enjoyable voyage into a world of adventure and fantasy. The reader experiences the sense of a great many spiritual philosophies that underly Anne Spencer Parry's writing, and regardless of the reader's convictions, they enrich the book with thought provoking and highly thrilling material.

The Heart of Life in a book,
By
This review is from: The Land Behind The World (Paperback)
I have read and re-read this novel. Each time, I remember what really matters in my life. It is about a young girl named Bara who never really feels that she fits-in with this world. She always feels she is more 'awake' or sensitive to those around her and that the rest of the world feels asleep to the living things and life around them. One day she notices a young boy named Dov who amazingly seems to be quiet in his thoughts; just like her, and follows him through a portal to 'the Land Behind the World' where she meets other 'Missing Persons' like herself that are more awake in their souls. Here in the land, she can far sense others thoughts, fly free riding the winds and feel the energy of life all around her. With the help of her new friends: Eris, Dov, Anita, Susie and Zaddik, she frees a man named Jeremy who has been kept prisoner by the 'Flugs' (a group of grey souless people living in a Grey City of modern, yet lifeless existence). They foil the plot of Pottinger (the city leader of the Flugs) to create a computer signal that will send out waves of apathy and dispair and to the citizens of the Grey City: forever robbing any hope or individual thought. It is beautifully written, incredibly easy to read and a journey that leads you from a grey existence of 'modern' living to an awakening to what is really important. Loved every page!
