4.0 out of 5 stars Graphic Details about the Martyrdom of Polish Priest (Now Saint) Maximilian (Maksimilian) Kolbe, October 9, 2011
This short book tells us how Father Kolbe, a Polish priest incarcerated in Auschwitz, offered his life in exchange for a German-picked hostage prisoner who was to die in reprisal for an Auschwitz escapee who was never caught.

WARNING: The descriptions of the agonizing death while caged are graphic. When a prisoner begged the SS man for bread or water, he was cursed and kicked.

Some information is presented about Kolbe's earlier life. For instance, Kolbe spent some years in Japan, notably the eventually-to-be-atomic-bombed Nagasaki.

In many publications, the Catholic antipathy towards Masons is mentioned, but not the reason behind it. Apart from the fact that Freemasonry is incompatible with Christianity, at least some Masons were fanatically anti-Christian. For instance, the young Kolbe witnessed a hateful anti-Christian demonstration by Masons. (p. 65).
