Desperately Seeking Attention,
By
This review is from: lastnightsparty: Where Were You Last Night? (Hardcover)
Bronques captures the desparation of the late night party crowd, people who will do anything to get noticed. I feel terribly sad looking at much of his work. He never judges his subjects; he merely captures them screaming at the camera, "Look at me. I'm special." Unfortunately, being featured in Last Night's Party, is like being in yesterday's news. It's so easy to be a has been. I wonder if when people look at themselves in his book, they reflect on what's missing from their lives. It's an extremely revealing photo expose'. Well done. I highly recommend this book.

Revealing,
This review is from: lastnightsparty: Where Were You Last Night? (Hardcover)
I think Marques has a brilliant idea here. His photos are intruiging, colorful, animated, funny, sad, erotic, dark, dirty. Mostly its a curiousity factor, getting to see a party you were never invited to.
"Merlin Bronques is a talentless photographer who takes advantage of young drunk girls to get them to undress for photos." Someones been drinking that haterade. FEMALE perspective: blaming the photographer is a cop out, those girls are perfectly aware of what they are doing to themselves, drunk or not.

this book makes you feel the need to be invited to better and more raving parties. while it shows what many would do for attention to get photographed, it is a somewhat a true representation of how a person really is when they let loose. i loved flipping through this book so much and spotting the likes of kanye west, madonna, david bowie, leighton meester etc. 4 stars! minus one for not making the book much thicker, would have been an even better coffee table book otherwise

If you are looking to check out some outre costumes and see a few boobs, this book should appeal. From Amazon's presentation, I was exepecting fine art documentary photography and found there were only a couple pictures I liked. There might have been several more if both sides of the open page didn't run together with no gutter. A photographer carefully frames his photo, whether while shooting or afterwards, and then the publisher or printer turns it into visual chaos by having it run right into the adjacent picture and creates ruinous distraction and confusion. I hate that. This book was still interesting but is probably better flipped through once than owned. However, given the lurid subject matter, you probably won't find it at your local public library so that may not be an option.

I'm a DJ and I know when a party is f*** up and out of control, and I love it. I think Merlin Bronques just portraits the dirty, naughty and fun side of the club scene, and the real people behind it. Looking at this book reminds me of all the good times with my crazy mates and my chaotic girlfriends. Nice pictures also, so let the party goes on and on ! ! !

Merlin Bronques is a talentless photographer who takes advantage of young drunk girls to get them to undress for photos. If you really want a book of staged photos, people rolling around in dirt, vomit, and piss then sure buy this. If you have some class and dignity I would refrain.. there is nothing artistic about this book. More sad and pathetic.
