The Judy Bolton Mystery series(written by one author) by Margaret Sutton is excellent. THE LIVING PORTRAIT story is a good example. It has the mysterious changing portrait, stolen money, new friends,mysterious happenings.The cast of main characters is outstanding, Judy Bolton Dobbs, her husband Peter-an FBI agent, her brother Horace, Honey Dobbs-Peter's sister,Roberta-their foster daughter(who talks to the 'living portrait'. The story is fastpaced and so interesting you don't want to put it down until you've finished it, then you want to read another in the series.
