low end vs high end macbook pro 13 Any opinions on whether the extra 300 dollars for i7/750GB upgrade is worth it for a general college use macbook pro 13? Won't be doing gaming, just general schoolwork use. If we buy the low end, can we upgrade inexpensively in the future if needed?
G., I agree with AznboyAdrian's comment. Unless if you run many softwares at the same time (Mail, Keynote, Page, Photoshop), a MBP w/ i5, 500MHz, 4GB should perform fine. Besides the screen is too small to have too many windows opened at the same time anyway. Upgrade to 8GB of RAM should cost ~48-50, and you can do it yourself easily. I did it w/ " Kingston HyperX Plug n Play 8 GB Kit (2x4GB Modules) 1600MHz DDR3 SODIMM Notebook/Netbook Memory 8 Dual Channel Kit (PC3 12800) 204-Pin KHX1600C9S3P1K". Save your money for a bigger desktop, or softwares instead.
Nope..not worth it at all. All you're getting is the i7 essentially and 8GB of RAM. You can buy 2x4GB DDR3 1600L memory from various online retailers for $50. A 750GB 5400RPM HDD will run you around $85. That's no more than a $150 upgrade. The i7 is hardly any difference than the i5. You get 1MB more L3 cache and a higher clock rate for the CPU and also a higher clock rate for the iGPU. In terms of
