Password and Data Security

mSecure is a password and data manager that offers a convenient, secure solution to storing sensitive information on your Android device.

mSecure stores sensitive data, like web logins and passwords, credit card numbers, frequent flyer IDs, and any other data you want to access quickly from your mobile device. Using an industry-proven data encryption method, your information is safe guarded in case your device is misplaced or stolen.

mSecure comes with 17 predefined categories for data, such as Web Logins, Credit Cards, Email Accounts, and Frequent Flyer Numbers, to make using mSecure quick and painless. A password generator yields strong passwords. The search field makes it easy to find any particular record. Add your own custom information fields as well; each category can have an unlimited number of fields and an icon of your choosing. Included are 274 unique icons for you to choose from. A self-destruct feature will delete your data after a number of failed login attempts. Forget your information? Use the hint feature to jog your memory.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast accurate support! June 4, 2011
Verified Purchase
It is very hard to get me to rate anything with 5 stars. The customer service I received today is what put this over the too.

I tried this out and found there were some things that annoyed me - specifically that the app did not default to the number pad when entering credit card numbers. I sent a quick email to their support, and within an hour on a Saturday evening, I got an email explaining how to edit the app to my liking.

This sort of fast service (and an answer that didn't make me feel stupid) is what will make me a loyal customer.

As for the app itself, it is a very easy interface, highly intuitive, and Very Easy to customize for your own taste. I'm glad I picked this up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great app: Solid, capable, and room to grow. June 4, 2011
Verified Purchase
I can't fathom some of these reviews. I am usually a fairly negative person about apps like this, but this app surprised me. I've been using a completely inferior method of keeping up with my passwords for a while, just hoping I wouldn't be a target. Yeah, that's stupid isn't it?
This is a great app that works well. It doesn't bog you down with features, but keeps it simple and straight-forward. The big deal to me was being able to copy the password and then copying it into another app, like a browser or whatever. That feature is there and it works well.
The only reason I didn't give it a fifth star was because the desktop app is disappointing. It it highly utilitarian and is only used for backing up and restoring. You can't, that I can tell, enter or edit data. I think that feature should come along.

It's a great app and it does what it says!

5.0 out of 5 stars A really solid app ... December 9, 2012
Verified Purchase
I haven't paid $10 for very many apps, but I was switching from an iPhone 3GS to a Samsung Galaxy S III, and I had come to rely on mSecure to keep track of all of my logins, codes, and such. I hated the thought of learning a new app, but I still decided to shop around first ... didn't find anything that made it worth the risk ... so I paid my money (again, although I understand that it's a different platform), downloaded mBackup for my PC, backed up my 3GS to the PC, and restored my S III from that backup ... worked like a charm. (note: that's just one of several ways to get your data over to the new phone)

The app runs very similarly to the iOS app ... thus far I've noticed only a couple of minor irritants (not worth dinging it a full star) ... for example, when logging in, you can't just hit the Next key after typing the password, you have to touch the icon up on the screen ... not a big deal, just a little slower ... and the iOS version had the alphabet list running down the right side that allowed you to jump down to the general portion of the list that you wanted with one touch ... the Android version doesn't have that, so you either have to use the search function or scroll down ... again, not a huge problem, but it takes longer. There are other tools for organizing the list, which I'll have to explore and start using instead, I guess.

For those of you who don't have a password manager app, and who have many different types of data to manage (web logins, frequent flyer accounts, network passwords, etc., this would be a good choice because it's very flexible in the types of records that you can store. In short, it's worth the money, even for a cheapskate like me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Corrupted my backup data when I needed it March 27, 2013
Verified Purchase
Terribly unstable product. I trusted it to keep my passwords and data safe, but twice so far it has corrupted my data and prevented me from accessing it. I don't recommend it and will now search for something else that can hold up the claim of allowing backups.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing but a bad iPhone port May 17, 2011
By O'mally
I'll start by saying this seems to be the best password keeper I've found. The interface is relatively clean, and it's very configurable - it doesn't lock you into some developer's idea of which and how many fields each entry should have. It uses higher-level encryption than any other program I've looked at, and it syncs with your desktop - something only one or two other apps do. It's also relatively inexpensive with a one-time purchase fee instead of an annual subscription.

That would all be great if it weren't for some pretty inexcusable drawbacks. First, you can export your password list in order to move it to another device, but inexplicably the program exports to a completely unprotected .csv file! It's not even an option, there's just no way to encrypt the exported file. How you can develop a program that is designed to encrypt and protect data, then force users to export that data into a clear-text file is just beyond me. Even worse is the fact that you can only connect to and sync data between your phone and computer if you install Apple's Bonjour service. Are you kidding me? This is what makes the app nothing but a bad iPhone port. Hey guys - I bought an Android phone for a reason! If I wanted to have to install Apple software on my computer I would have bought an iPhone!

Bottom line is, no thanks. Don't force me to expose my password data if I need to export it, and don't force me to install Apple software to connect to an Android phone. What a shame.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hmm June 10, 2011
Verified Purchase
The password generator is nice, especially with the options it gives.

It really needs a bit better up-front documentation on the way it works as far as locking and such.

My biggest concern is the permissions. I am fairly sure it's safe, and I understand why it is asking for them, but I cannot condone using any app which holds sensitive data to request any permission allowing network access and things which 'could' be used maliciously.

Cool features, but not going to use anything but the generator.
