not happy with magicjack,
By
This review is from: magicJack Phone Device - 2 pack
I have returned my MagicJack because every other time I tried to use it I had to reboot the software. It became a royal pain. I also had a very difficult time communicating with the return service personnel. They still have not refunded my money a month after they received my magicjack back, and I had to have the credit card company investigate. Please be aware that there is no phone number to call for help, only online help which was not satisfactory.

magicJack is a good Bet for landline users looking to switch,

I've own this product for awhile now. Yes it does all what is listed on the company website. The incoming voice quality is good and almost near landline voice quality. Outgoing voice quality is adequate. Several people say the sound is almost like I'm calling from overseas but they can hear me Ok.Cons: [Audio Conferencing] When dialing into audio conferencing services thia is where the system doesn't recognize passcodes to dial-in. [Delay] Short delay in calls both incoming and outgoing. [Fax] No support as of yet for Faxing. I was able to receive a fax based on the information magicjack list on there website. No success in sending a fax. [Voicemail] Tad bit sluggish. Pros: - Cost - Easy setup - Features

Works, and costs next to nothing. Great for travelers.,

I liked this product. It worked for me as advertized on the MagicJack website. I dont seem to have the problem others have noted here. However, sometimes when receiving calls, I can hear an echo of my own voice. I wont say this business grade - I would not want to have a phone interview for a nice job on this gadget, but if you have friends and family in US & Canada and want to just gab very frequently, this is not bad. For me, I have to travel internationally frequently, it works absolutely fine from hotel rooms and wifi/wired connections. Yes, its nice to have a US phone number wherever you go. We gave one to a cousin overseas and its nice to have ~free conversations instead of international calling charges.

Serious Hardware Quality Issues,
By Reader0111 "Spence Newman" (Fullerton, California) - See all my reviews

Actually using this product for about 2 months was impressive. The problem NOW is that technical support at Magicjack is broken and won't respond to anything. The website just keeps you in an endless look of doing what doesn't work. The memory on the device fails regularly requiring the drive it creates on your computer to be disk checked with repair to get it working again. So you lose your phone numbers and history when that happens. You can't get Tech support to help because the tech support part of their website won't work like it used to. Either they are trying to fix their tech support or they are having so many problems with hardware quality issues that they are over whelmed.

Not Mac Friendly,
By lordstanley011 (Michigan) - See all my reviews

I purchased the Magic Jack , recieved it rather quickly, very impressed. However found that you must have a PC to download the Mac Beta software program from the Web site to the Magic Jack. Upon doing so we have yet to have this product work on our (Intel Based Mac Mini), you must have a Intel Based Mac according to the Tech Support we spoke with. I do and still no success with this product. They told me to wait 48 hours and they would have someone get back with me with further support before returning the product. it has been 72 Hours and counting and I am still waiting for a resolve to my issue with this product. The individual attempting to assist us from the web site kept repeating herself as to what type of computers we had and asking the same questions over and over again, for one hour. I believe this product is not Mac friendly. If you own a Intel Based Mac be very hesitatant before purchasing this product, and personnally you need to be quite Computer Savey as well. This product is not one your Grand Mother can hook up if she has a Mac.

Magic Jack still needs improvement,
By
This review is from: magicJack Phone Device - 2 pack
Yes, free phone service sounds good and is a huge savings - but ... the Magic Jack only works 50% of the time.Often we can't receive calls in, or make calls out. We have to reboot the computer a couple of times per day. Luckily, we don't use the phone much and we have cell phones, so this is not a huge deal, but still a concern. The Magic Jack still needs improvement.

Cost next to nothing and that's what it's worth.,
This review is from: magicJack Phone Device - 2 pack
Returned it in the 30 day period and got my money back. Tried on 3 different computers. The installation caused issues on all 3 requiring frequent reboots. Some calls required multiple attempts to place and restarts of the software. Many incoming calls went to their buggy voice mail and never range locally. Calls that did go through had frequent drop outs so people I was calling couldn't follow a conversation. Skype is 100 times more reliable.

I love my MagicJack,

I didn't buy my MagicJack from Amazon. I bought it from the company. Either way, it's well worth the $40 you spend for unlimited long distance to anywhere in the U.S. or Canada. I love my MagicJack. It paid for itself the first two weeks I owned it.

Don't buy it,

The device itself is rather interesting, but it rarely works. The software requires your computer always to be turned on and left logged on, instead of running as a service. The biggest problem though is the sound quality. It sounds much worse than a cell phone with lots of crackling and it often hangs you up. Also, if you chat with tech support they just read through the knowledge base, which you most likely already did, and their ability to write English is terrible. It may be a cheap phone bill but you're better off just not having a phone if you want to save money.
