I can't seem to make the dance mat work for the actual dancing...

It all seems to be through the actual controller.

However, I can use the mat to do everything besides recognizing the steps during the dancing.

We're having the exact same problem...our daughter received this for Christmas today, and we tried contacting the manufacturer, but their service dept is closed till January 2! Would appreciate any help or advice.

Ditto....I can control the menus just fine with the pad, but in an actual game, the arrows don't work. The WII remote for the hand movements works though. Not sure if I should return it to get a new one.

I just got my game and mat yesterday too. I have never played this game before, so I am thinking I just am doing something wrong. My pad is conncected to the wii. Everything works except the arrows during the song. I am spent two hours trying to figure out what I am doing wrong and I am completely lost! If anyone has an idea's please let me know. I have two pads and neither one are working during the songs.

I had the same problem. It turned out that the documentation was wrong--the picture showing the four ports on the Wii to plug the mat into was upside down. I moved the cable from the leftmost port to the rightmost port, and presto, everything worked! I think by having it in the wrong port, it thinks it's a secondary controller and so it lets you operate the menus with it but not actually's expecting you to hook up the primary controller to the first port.

100% CONFIRMED to fix the problem!!!

Okay everyone...

I'm going to make another post on this to make sure everyone sees it, but K. Kent was right and the problem is pretty easy to fix...

Just make sure that ou have the dance mat plugged in to the first port on the side of the Wii - closest to the POWER button on the front of the Wii.

Thank you so much for helping out with this K. Kent!!!

Have fun everyone!!!

Me too! I USED to be a dancer and had my little one thrilled that we were going to 'dance'. I am not a great dancer but I can certainly keep the beat to a slow tempo song!! :-)
My son was trying so very hard...poor little guy...he's only 4 1/2yrs old and he stayed up past his bedtime with his teeny legs trying SO hard to get the steps right. I was really frustrated because when he finally started listening as to what to do, he WAS doing REALLY well for his first time...I had to tell him he was doing really well when the TV was booing him and saying they expected better. (For new users...I found out that you can disarm the booing too if you have young ones... if they are sensitive.)
I was about to send it back when we just received it.

My question is...WHY don't the other ports work?? I don't understand why the A, B - and + buttons worked on the controller pad yet NOT the arrow buttons?? it seems they should all work or none should work...and what IF we wanted to add 3 more pads to compete with one another?? Will the other 3 people be able to access their pads????
