depending on the distance from receiver to speaker, I used 16ga wire. #2821 250ft 14AWG CL2 Rated 2-Conductor Loud Speaker Cable (For In-Wall Installation) from Monoprice.com

Yes, you need 2 separate wires, each one should have a Red & White wire. However, their are other speaker wires you could use which which may be in a clear jacket but the wires would be Silver & Gold, both would work just fine. I used the 16AWG wires which were Black & White.

DON'T split the casing, just don't use it the green wire. That casing protects the wire from corrosion.

I don't know your receiver, but I control mine from the Zone 2 receiver. If you added a control volume you would most likely have to add an amplifer to power it

You do not need it....you can thread the wires thru the red and ack post connectors
