Biography

James Newell Osterberg Jr. was one of the greatest rock stars of the 20th Century, but many music fans wouldn't recognise that name at all - because he is usually known as Iggy Pop. Declared "The Godfather of Punk" for his huge influence on that genre and style of rock music, Iggy Pop was the leader of The Stooges in the late 60s/early 70s, and then forged a respectable solo career too. Editorial Reviews

Exclusive European pressing couples the double-disc audio anthology (same tracks as the US) along with the DVD (PAL/Region 0) 'Live at Avenue B' which also is available domestically, albeit seperately. 'I get up in the morning, I look in the mirror, and I think, 'Hey, you're a pretty interesting guy.'' - Iggy Pop. A million in prizes will be a double album chronicling Iggy's career from the first Stooges album in 1969 to the present day. It is the first time that Iggy's career has been compiled so comprehensively and the track listing is phenomenal; CD1 takes in the three Stooges albums; The Stooges, Fun House and Raw Power plus Kill City the album Iggy made with James Williamson in 1975, plus the classic early solo albums, Lust for Life and The Idiot. CD2 takes us up to the present day with all killers and no fillers and the added bonus of two duets - the wondrous 'Well Did You Evah' with Debbie Harry from the Red Hot and Blue charity album and 'Candy' with Kate Pierson from the B52's. This 2 CD collection goes deeper than the Virgin single disc release of Rude And Nude in 1996. Liner notes offer a career retrospective and are highlighted with quotes from some of music's most influential artists, such as David Bowie, Debbie Harry, Henry Rollins, Chrissy Hynde and many more. Packaged in a deluxe multi-fold digi pack. EMI. 2005. * Please note you will need an All Code DVD player to view. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars Import(ant) non Bomp!!! Comp, January 14, 2008

This review is from: a million in prizes: the anthology (2CD) and live at the avenue b (DVD) (Audio CD)
Just a heads up for people thinking of buying this just for the two rare tracks only on the import version: "I'll Be Seeing You" (with Francoise Hardy) & "In the Death Car". What the cd actually plays is the same as the American version, contrary to all the packaging & track listings on this website. I actually picked mine up at a local store, so that might make a difference, but don't be surprised if all you end up with is a slightly smaller version of "A Million in Prizes" & "Live At the Avenue B". The compilation itself is the best one out there (everyone will have complaints about song choices, my missing favorites are "the Endless Sea" & there should be at least two songs from "Funhouse"), being that every official studio album is represented here. The Debbie Harry duet & two live tracks make it worth the buy for old fans too.
