Not healthy!,

11 ounces packed with sugar... yes, this little bottle has 22g of sugar (the number 3 & 4 ingredients). I don't think this should be advertised as a nutrition drink. It's basically water, whey protein and sugar with a small amount of vitamins and minerals.
It's quite thick, not like a juice. I didn't particularly care for the flavor but it was ok. Most vitamins are one third the RDA and thus very weak. Essentially there is too much sugar and too little nutrition packed in a 200 calorie bottle. It would be a lot healthier to just drink a bottle of water and swallow a decent multi-vitamin.

Great for Lactose-Intolerant People,
This review is from: mix 1 Protein & Antioxidant Drink, Mango, 11-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
I bought these at a GNC nearby, and I love them! Like all protein drinks, there's a small aftertaste. It's not bad at all, especially compared to like a Muscle Milk shake made at home. The flavor, otherwise, is really great. It's a smooth drink with a very nice flavor. It's nice and gentle on my stomach, and really energized me and kept me full for a while.

There are two things I have found about nutritional drinks. Most have way too many sugars and other have a powdery after taste. Some even have both!
Mix 1 Mango has a nice balance between sweet and tangy with no after taste. The texture is smooth and not overly thick. Great taste, well balance nutrition and it avoids a lot of the common food allergens. Because it is packaged in a light weight plastic recyclable bottle it is lighter weight than many of the other meal replacement drinks.

I've worked in jobs where sometimes you can't stop; much less sit and eat. This item, Mix1, took care to provide all I needed in a meal and more. It's everything one needs in a world of nonstop, get-there-first rat racing. Hungry at work and can't go to a restaurant or cafeteria? Just finished working out and your body needs critical nutrients and you don't want/can't risk fast food? Want to hold the calorie intake down and want anything that's better than a bland meal-replacement shake? Don't want the usual coffee pick-me-up? Mix1 is the answer to all those questions. It might be the answer to your nutrition quandary. I drink it at work when it's crazy and there's no time for a 15-minute break. I drink it when I finish at the gym. I drink it as a snack when my earlier meal was less than healthy. I even use it when I feel run-down from stress or an oncoming cold. It's fantastic! I compare it to a Met-Rx shake (a thoroughly complete mix, but needs a blender for good prep) mixed with V-8's Fusion juice (4 vegetables and 4 fruit juices in one bottle, but no protein). I cannot recommend this product enough. By the way, research shows that for a more complete recovery one must consume protein with carbs in a 3xcarbs-to-1xprotein ratio. Mix1 is a great start and finish!

It actually does taste good. Of course, 'taste' is quite a subjective matter so, to establish some frame of reference, I drink V8s in the winter, eat mass quantities of raw tomatoes while in season, real mangoes whenever they are on sale. But, given that I wouldn't take real mangoes to the office - messy to handle on a desk - I can see myself keeping a few bottles of 'mix one' in the fridge to help me start the day on good note.
To sum it up: 200 calories, nice ingredients, including real mango juice, the expected amounts of vitamins and minerals. Overall, I enjoyed it. There is no after-taste and it seems to be filling enough to keep me going through lunch. If the price seems right to you and you enjoy the mango taste, go for it.

Not My Cup of Tea,

I didn't really like the taste of the "mango" flavor, unlike the "berry" version of this beverage. When chilled, the drink has the basic taste and consistency of liquid yogurt. My biggest problem with the product is that it seems to be marketed as some kind of high-protein nutrition drink. I pay close attention to labels and I have tried numerous different high-protein nutrition supplements. You will find many of these drinks or mixes available from Syntrax, EAS, Muscletech, Atkins, etc. The thing that makes Mix1 different from quality products like those above is its excessive amount of SUGAR. At 22 grams, it has more sugar than chocolate milk, more than most fruit juices and 20 times what you will find in most healthy protein drinks. It includes twice as many carbohydrates 29g as protein and a whopping 200 calories. If you are trying to lose weight or gain muscle mass, this product is NOT going to help. If you want quick energy with antioxidants and lots of sugar, just fruit juice would be a better choice. It's much cheaper and about as healthy. If you have Diabetes, you should avoid Mix1 altogether, as it will definitely spike your glucose blood sugar levels beyond where you want them.

Mix1 Mango is a meal replacement drink. Each 11 oz. bottle has 200 calories and contains a variety of vitamins and other nutrients you can read about in the product description above.
Taste and texture: *The mango flavor is very subtle and close to being imperceptible. *There is a pronounced aroma and aftertaste of vitamins, similar to the smell and taste of chewable multivitamin tablets. *The texture is creamy and rich, due to the use of olive oil and whey. *It doesn't taste terribly sweet, which is to my liking. Usage: *I don't think I could drink one everyday in place of a meal. *It's too much like a yogurt drink or a smoothie to drink while exercising. *I can see using mix1 as a bridge between meals, especially if you find it hard to eat a proper breakfast or lunch. *The product has a fairly long shelf life, so it could go into a disaster preparedness kit. At the end of the day, mix1 Mango is a convenience product. If you're somebody who wants to be able to consume a number of nutrients and vitamins in one go, mix1 may fit your needs. The downside is that mix1 doesn't taste particularly fruity and probably will remind you of eating children's vitamins.

balanced nutrition but the taste is a little weird.....,

The good thing? Well, if you are strapped for time, and who isn't, this might be a good thing to have readily available to give you a boost when you can't fit in a normal meal. Breakfast comes to mind....The drink has 23 vitamins and minerals, boasts 3 servings of fruits/veggies, antioxidants equal to 4 cups of green tea and 15 gr. of whey protein isolate. The bad thing? For me, the taste was just a little weird, I don't know if it is the protein powder or something else, but it left me with a strange taste that I didn't like. The mango is fine, not too sweet but not too plain, it does have 22 grams of sugar though, which may be a little higher in sugar than some would like.
Would I buy it for myself? Probably not, but was it horrible? no, and I am guessing that those who have tried and are used to protein powder drinks may find this to be absolutely fine. It was a middle of the road thing for me, not good enough for me to want to purchase, but if I was hungry I would definitely grab one because of the nutrition and the basically "ok" taste....just nothing to get excited over.

Helps with energy levels but has a few areas that might be corrected,

Understand: because of chronic pain, I may be up for most of a night. This, of course, exhausts me.
Furthermore: gasoline prices are fluctuating, and the long lines at the gas stations (the day before, they'd stretched beyond a city block). This is relevant because I wanted to be up at the crack of dawn, when the local station opened. Getting up earlier than usual on my day off is never enjoyable, and even less fun after a combined HOUR of sleep. Needless to say - on this morning in which I'd planned to leave early, I was up all night. I considered making a pot of coffee before I left, but I had just gotten the mix 1 Mango, and I NEEDED "sustained energy to get you through your busy day." I didn't want a canned, carbonated energy drink quite so early, and felt that this would be perfect. The drinks market does not offer nearly enough mango. For the most part, this tasted like nice, creamy mango lassi. There was a calcium aftertaste (20% of the daily recommended dosage), but not as bad as, calcified orange juice, for example. I was a bit disappointed at the amount that clung to the inside of the bottle and, furthermore, that the #5 stamp on the bottle is not recyclable in my geographic area. I left for my errands. I didn't have a nasty burst of energy that some products offer but I was awake enough to accomplish what I needed to do. When the errands were done, rather than go back to bed, I was surprised to find that, while I was a bit tired, I made it through my day. I didn't even take my usual afternoon nap. While the following may not be true for others, I'd like to note that I do not process liquid sugars well. (A glass of orange juice has been intolerable.) Perhaps because of the proteins (?), the 22g of sugar did not make me sick. It might be worth a try for other people with this physical annoyance! The recycling bit bothers me, although I'm sure that there ARE areas of the US that will, indeed, recycle #5 empties. The calcium aftertaste was a bit of a turn-off, but not enough to keep me from this otherwise tasty, helpful drink that's a lot cheaper than a takeout smoothie.

Simply put, nice package, enough of an individual serving to satisfy.
This flavour I was shipped, MANGO.. Original swallow, had a nice slight sour taste of mango that diminished with each additional swallow. Not as grainy as most "protein" drinks, but I actuall enjoy the grainy texture occasionally. I would buy occasionally in the store, as this product noe excessive SWEET. Nice item. |
