5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome battery life - easy to read screen - small and comfortable in the hand, January 24, 2009
This review is from: mobiBLU B153 1 GB MP3 Player (Black) (Electronics)
I bought this probably around two years ago and I totally love it. I don't understand how it never caught on in the market. The screen is very crisp and clear and easy to read - it scrolls automatically for long names. The sound it fantastic.

I like the fact that it shows up a normal drive when plugged in through the USB; I don't like MP3 players or any device for that matter that requires installing software and/or drivers.

The device does not do any kind of organization of the music by artist or genre etc. It's simply a folder system just like the hard drive on your PC. You navigate to a folder and then you can play all the music in the folder. You can also create a play list to play songs from various folders. If you create a playlist of all the music in all the folders, then you have the ability to play all your music in random order. Unfortunately, you probably have to be a techie kind of person to figure out how to do some of these things.

The user interface is not too bad but could certainly be a little better. I wish the firmware was completely open source so I could modify it to change a few behaviors but it's not too bad.

I think the joy stick is kind of nice - all navigation can be done using a single finger and without lifing the finger from the joy stick.

I dislike the fact it uses a proprietary mini USB connector - if I lose the cable I'm out of luck.

I sure wish this device would come back to the market with larger memory sizes.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Secret Little iPod-Killer!, December 18, 2007
By
This review is from: mobiBLU B153 1 GB MP3 Player (Black) (Electronics)
Last summer Wired magazine featured flash mp3 players and this little unit beat out the iPod Nano as their recommended choice. I bought one directly from Mobiblu and could not possibly have been more satisfied. Wish I could buy another, but it's no longer in production and rare to find used online.

Features: FM Stereo (or mono) tuner, voice recording, line-in recording (the PERFECT way to make 128kbs mp3's of your old albums and tapes!), volume boost setting, FIVE-BAND EQ, drag-and-drop file loading (NO software required - it's another drive when plugged in via USB!), Podcast ready (which I have never used), 8 edit- and save-able EQ settings (you know, "jazz", "pop" "classical" etc), SRS brand sound enhancement, nice solid construction

In Wired's "pro & con" section they started with "fantastic sound quality" which I though might be a major consideration for an audio device, duh. The only con they could invent was that the little joystick control was stubby and not the easiest to operate, but I disagree - it's designed that way to avoid accidental switching while in your pocket.

The iPod Nano has battery life of around 12 hours. TWELVE HOURS? No wonder no iPod user can go anywhere without a car charger. The Mobiblu will operate for - ready? - 150 HOURS on a charge. This past July we took it to Jamaica and used it (and a regular CD player) for nine days, no charger and plenty charge remaining when we left.

The included earphones are excellent. Overall sound quality is wonderful.

The only cons I can think of for this unit are it's name (I just call it "my mp3 thing") and the fact that it's out of production. I will always give a look at products from Korean manufacturer Hyun Won in the future.
