How does this work?
Clicking the “Test drive now” button launches a copy of this app on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), a web service that provides on-demand compute capacity in the cloud for developers. When you interact with the simulated phone using your mouse and keyboard, we send those inputs over the Internet to the app running on Amazon EC2 — just like your mobile device would send a finger tap to the app. Our servers then send the video and audio output from the app back to your computer. All this happens in real time, allowing you to explore the features of the app as if it were running on your mobile device.

Product Description
Army Survival Guide
Danger lurks around every corner

You don't have to join the army to learn how to survive in a world filled with chaos. The Army Survival Guide will help you get through whatever intense situation you might encounter, whether you are caught in the crossfire of a political uprising, preparing for a zombie apocalypse, or merely headed out to the country for a weekend fishing trip.

A Little Knowledge Can Mean the Difference Between Living and Dying
Army Survival Guide
Hone your survival skills

Army Survival Guide is divided among 23 chapters covering a vast range of survival topics. Chapters include Psychology, Shelters, Water Procurement, Dangerous Animals, and Field-Expedient Weapons, Tools, and Equipment. The guide also has sections specific to harsh environments, including Desert Survival, Tropical Survival, Cold Weather Survival, and Sea Survival.

Learn How to Find a Meal... Without Becoming One

Do you know which parts of the Acacia tree are edible? Can you predict an oncoming blizzard by observing the behavior of cirrus clouds? Do you know how to identify a poisonous Brown Recluse spider? Army Survival Guide includes nine appendices that will teach you all of these things and more. Find out which plants have medicinal uses, familiarize yourself with venomous snakes and lizards, and learn how to use ropes and tie knots. A number of photos and illustrations are included.

Survive Any Situation--Internet Not Required

All of the information in Army Survival Guide is stored on your phone, so you can access it even after human civilization has collapsed and the Internet has ceased to exist. Of course, human civilization might be alive and well, and maybe you're just outside of your phone's coverage area. Additionally, there is a handy bookmarking feature that allows you to quickly jump to specific sections of the guide.

2.0 out of 5 stars FM 21-76 August 28, 2012

This just appears to be FM 21-76 which you can get for free online in PDF form. The PDF is better than this "App" because you can open it in your Kindle app which allows you to search, bookmark, and lookup words. I don't recommend installing this unnecessary app.

This App is simply a poorly made Android version of the FM 21-76 (which is available as a free download).

Even discarding the fact that you can get this book for free (in many formats), this "Army Survival Guide" is missing a lot of necessary features that other Android books have.

- There is no option to zoom.
- There is no option to save (so you can't continue from where you left off, having to go back to the TOC every time).
- There are spelling and other errors in this App (check out my images for more info).
- There is no way to search other than by using the TOC.
- This is an older version of the guide than is currently available (just google FM 3-05.70).
- The App actually hung on me and required a restart.

Honestly, do yourself a favor and just get the PDF (or another) version of the FM 3-05.70. You will still be able to read this PDF on your Android device.

Being an army man, I find all the information contained within useful and practical, but paying for something I can get for free (and with more features) is just pointless.

This so called Army Survival guide is nothing but a poorly programmed copy of the FM 21-76.

Go ahead and download the free and updated FM 3-05.70 instead. It has more information and no glaring errors.

I take offense at momojo and developers like him that just want to make a quick buck from freely available materials.

This sneaky dev also has multiple dummy Amazon accounts that are tagging the real and helpful reviews as bad. Another shameful practice, but what did you expect from someone that copies the work of others in the first place?

3.0 out of 5 stars Good reference guide but... August 28, 2012

I think this info would be better utilized in an ebook. Then I could put it on my kindle touch instead of my Fire which id be a lot more apt to take when camping where this info could be useful. The Fire would be dead after a day or 2 whereas the kindle touch could be useful for a couple weeks.

3.0 out of 5 stars FM 3-05.70 with some glaring errors August 28, 2012
Verified Purchase
This app is basically a digital version of the US Army Field Manual 3-05.70 (formerly FM 21-76), probably the most popular Army Field Manual of all time. While it is primarily geared towards a soldier lost in the field, with chapters such as "Survival Movement in Hostile Areas" and "Camouflage", the majority of the manual is useful for civilians as well. The manual includes information on first aid, obtaining shelter, water and food, lighting a fire, expedient weapons and tools, dangerous plants and animals, direction finding, signaling, and surviving in the desert, tropics, arctic or at sea.

I noticed there are some glaring errors in the app. In particular, several of the images for the edible plants in Appendix B are obviously wrong. The photo for asparagus shows a tree! The photo for the baobab shows onions, the photo for beech shows some kind of grass-like plant, and the entry for banana has an incorrect photo as well.

This app appears to have been lifted from a website, though since there are several websites containing the same erroneous photos, likely all copied from one another, it's hard to say which.

While Amazon's website mentions nothing at all about permissions, this app does call on the Modify/Delete SD Card Contents and Read Phone State and Identity permissions. It can't really do much with that information, fortunately, since it lacks permissions to access the Internet.

FM 3-05.70 and its predecessor FM 21-76 are readily available on the Internet for free. If you don't want to pay the 99 cents for this app, you can easily find it in webpage or PDF form using Google.

2.0 out of 5 stars Incorrect info August 28, 2012

The first section I looked at was the edible plants section.. Unfortunately, the photo of "asparagus" was of a large tree that was clearly NOT "asparagus". From then on the photos didn't appear to be synced properly. This seems to me to be potentially dangerous.. Just saying.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better options availiable August 28, 2012
I applaud the efforts of people to get content out and Amazon for making it free.
All things being equal this would be better than nothing if the pictures matched the descriptions for edible plants.

However much like other reviewers there is a better option in downloading a .pdf copy of the book which is availiable for free.
A better option still would be to downlaod a newer version of the book, the field manual from May 2002 has been updated to FM 3-05.70 and is availiable free online from [...]

If an even newer version exists I havn't found it yet and would appreciate someone letting me know.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a book August 28, 2012
By Kxronos
It's just a book in app form. If you want to read a book on this subject then install. It features a glossary, chapters and bookmarks. No search function available.
