I've bought this WattsVIEW power monitor sensor hoping it would be an easy way to monitor current and volts from my generator. It's a great little sensor for monitoring up to 72 amps and up to 200 Volts DC. This monitor is not good for AC current / voltage. It took me about 30 minutes to wire this sensor up.
The problem is that new computers these days don't have a serial port, so you have to get a USB to Serial RS232 adapter. The one I got worked good with windows XP but not with Windows 7. So beware of trying to use Windows 7 with this product. If you are a programmer this sensor easily meets your needs by asynchronously sending out a status string once every second with Volts, Amps, Watts, & Watt Hours. I like to use it with Hyperterminal and just the data craw down the page. If you feel like you want fancy graphs and charts, you can download the software from the WattsVIEW website.
