Can both the parent unit and the baby monitor run off of just batteries? I am looking for a travel unit and cannot plug it in.

A
No. It needs to be fully charged. The parent unit after its charged can be placed in any room or you can hook it on you and go outside. I actually tested it and went 2 houses away and had no static and could hear clearly. It was a very good investment.
