A 6 month old may not understand when the basket "talks" but the pieces are big enough not to really have to worry about accidental swallowing. And it's definitely something the baby can grow into!

No. The bright colors, shapes, and music should be appreciated at 6 mo, even if baby doesn't have proper picnics;). There are no tiny dangerous pieces.

That's how old our daughter was when we got it for her. It's fine safety-wise, and they grow into playing with it. It's a great toy.

my daughter didn't actually start to get interested in this until she was about 13 months. prior to that she didn't really play with it, she just chewed on the pieces.

I think you can get for 6 month old, but they may not really play with it until 9 months plus. My 11 month old loves it.
