I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and was looking for something that can give me some juice when I am in a pinch, e. g. very late at night when I am at one of my sporting events. I do not want to carry a charger and cables around with me all the time. I got a spare battery, but you have to remember to take it with you ;). Which I probably would e. g. for a long trip with no access to an outlet but for sure I won't have it with me on this occassional emergencies to tie me over for a few hours. I wanted something I will have with me all the time which is not too bulky. So the key chain battery sounded like a great idea. I did not expect that a 1000 mAh battery would give me a complete charge (the Galaxy S3 hat a 2100 mAh battery and there is always some loss if you transfer energy from A to B). I expected something around like a 30 - 40% charge from this.
At first I had some problems. My boyfriend tried to use it and did not realize that the two cables were really only one cable. One end has the USB plug the other end has the micro USB plug. You always have to have one end of it plugged into the mophie or it won't work! So that might be the answer to some of you who said you got 0 charge out of it. That is what happened to my boyfriend.Read more ›
I actually bought two of these, one for me and one for my boyfriend. We both have the Motorola Droid 4. As soon as I opened the package, I checked the battery level, and it showed solid green. Thinking it must have already come with a charge, I hooked it up to my phone. My phone said it was charging for about the first ten seconds and then stopped. When I unplugged the Mophie, I checked it's battery life and it wouldn't even come on.
I initially thought this was because it was brand new, so I didn't think there was problem. So I decided to plug the device into a wall outlet using a plug head from one my cell phone chargers. Nothing happened. But then, maybe they just weren't compatible. So I plugged the device into a USB outlet on my computer. The LED showed up red, then started flashing green.
Now according to the instructions, if the LED light won't come on, it needs to be plugged up. If you check the battery while the device is unplugged it will light up red, orange, yellow, or green to display how much charge it has. Additionally, when charging the device, you can press the battery indicator and it will flash one of the above corresponding colors to let you know what stage of charging it is in.
At no point in testing this device did I ever see any color other than green or red.
Anyway, since my device was now flashing green that meant it was close to full charge, which didn't make sense if it had been completely dead a moment ago. I ended up letting the device sit plugged into the USB outlet for some time.Read more ›
The key chain thing is a good concept, but it doesn't work because my keys are to heavy to be hanging from my computer. Their cord needs to be longer.
Edit: Below is my original view which I stand behind but the quality of the product has me dropping this to two stars from four.
My original purchase lasted a week or so and stopped holding enough charge to give more than 3-5% charge to my phone. I exchanged it for another unit which lasted until... yesterday. Same problem. What was giving my phone at least 25% charge when I needed it dropped to 5% at best with less only a couple dozen charges at most. The manufacturer website states it is good for 500 cycles.
Is it perfect, no. But the reviews I've read are too critical. Many complaints like it not charging when PC goes to sleep have nothing to do with unit but user PC settings.
Small and easy to travel with - keep clipped inside by travel bag for emergency phone boost
Holds charge well when not used
1000 mAh battery
The 1000 mAh battery means if your phone has a 1000 mAh battery the Mophie could fully charge from dead minus any power your phone consumed during the process. Modern phones have more battery than that. My Lumia 900 for example is a 1830 mAh meaning I could rarely hope for a full Mophie to give over 50% charge in real world conditions.
Since it is an emergency / convenience device I say it does a four star job. The fifth star would be bigger than 1000 mAh battery in a more realistically keychained size package.

The cord provided doesn't fit my Galaxy S4 well, likes to fall out of the port. Also, you have to unplug and re-plug in the battery pack to get 2-3% charge in battery. Read morePublished 16 months ago by Jacob Osterman
