We've used this nightly for 6+ months, and it works great.

I really like the sounds--the white noise is good, as are the other options like the water.

I love that it can take batteries to be easily portable, or be plugged in.

I bought this to drown out the LA traffic near my place and the 7:30 a.m. "Ballet of the Garbage Trucks" (they do daily shows on my block; apparently my neighborhood creates enough waste to necessitate daily pick-ups. Not me, though: R,R,R!).
Anyway, even though it's marketed to babies, I use it unabashedly. I generally sleep to white noise (fan, sound machine, the *whoosh* of night air in the wilderness as it dances with a babbling brook not far from where I set my tent in the Sierras...). And this product does the job. I haven't switched it from "white noise," so I can't comment on the other tracks. "Heartbeat," may be great for a young child, but I don't need to spend my night in psychological fear of some phantom intruder (I think movies programmed us to associate "heartbeat" with imminent axe-stabbing).
The volume allows it to get quite loud too.

My only complaint would be the green-color plastic. It doesn't go with my monochromatic palette. But then again, I am a grown-man using a sound machine.

This is the best! We have 3 white noise machines for our baby and this is the best one, and still reasonably priced. I really like the sounds--the white noise is good, as are the other options like the water. The volume is good, too, and can go really loud if you need it. It can be powered both by battery or by plugging it in. It can play continuously (which I find works best) or on a timer.

We also have the Sleep Sheep, and this is better because I find the sleep sheep too quiet and it also has no option to be played continuously. The other one we have is the Conair, which is cheaper for a reason doesn't sound as good and can't be plugged in. The main problem with the Conair, though, is that itdoes this horrible electronic on-the-fritz thing periodically, which wakes him up and defeats the purpose completely.

Bottom line: this noise maker helps our baby fall asleep and I think is the best on the market for the price.

Been using this to help with nap time, it's controls are easy to operate while holding baby. The sound quality is good. It will stay on indefinitely if you don't use the timer which is great.

I purchased this basically out of desperation for my 6 month old, he hadn't outgrown sleeping like a newborn and being exhausted I was willing to buy just about anything that may help him and I both sleep better. The main selling point to me is that it can be left on continuously. Also important, it can be plugged in or run off batteries so we are not wasting anymore batteries than you already do with an infant in the house but we can still travel with it if need be. It's sleek looking, easy to operate, has great volume range and remembers the sound you had it on last when you turn it on again.
The first night we tried out thunderstorm, it is spot on and incredibly relaxing (my personal favorite), my son went from waking up every hour to two hours to waking up once. The second night he got up twice that night so I decided to try ocean waves on the third to see how he did with the other sounds. The ocean waves is also very realistic and relaxing but my son went right back to getting up every hour/two hours. On the forth night of having this I gave white noise a shot and he didn't wake up a single time, not once. We have now been using the white noise for a couple weeks and he no longer wakes up frantic, the few nights he's woken up one time he fusses for a few seconds and soothes himself almost immediately back to sleep. He wakes up seeming so rested and happy and I can relate.
I do not have a single complaint when it comes to this product. It was everything I was looking for and far exceeded my expectations. I will agree with some of the other reviews that the heartbeat does not sound natural and is not something I would want to listen too, but the rest of the sounds are excellent and realistic.

Why, given all of the technology at our fingertips, do sound machine manufacturers continue to make crappy machines? WHY?! This one, which seemed so promising, features a faulty volume knob that, after about a month of use, causes the volume to randomly drop out. You have to press it why you twist to recontact the soldering inside.

Junk.

UPDATE: 19Sept2014
After fruitless searches for a replacement with positive reviews and a reasonable price, I finally took apart this device to repair it. The volume knob problem is the result of insulating material that gets smeared across a conductive disc every time the knob is turned. If you choose to take this apart to repair it as I did, the job involves a small Phillips screwdriver, a butter knife, and a Q-Tip. FIRST, UNPLUG THE DEVICE!

There is a total of 9 screws: 4 on the outer cover, 4 that fasten the circuit board of interest, and one hidden inside the volume knob cover. Once you get the volume knob assembly out, you must pry off the top of the knob (I used a butter knife). Unscrew the hidden screw within that and the assembly will pop apart to reveal a little disc, upon which the conductive "rake" glides across. You will notice the smear lines. Use the Q-Tip to rub them off (you should see black grime on the Q-Tip). Twist the conductor to reach as much area as possible. Carefully reassemble the device and enjoy the now-working volume knob.

DISCLAIMER 1: Repair at your own risk. I have a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, and while this is certainly an amateur handyman job, don't get yourself shocked or burn down your home or further ruin your device and blame me. :-) I'm not an amateur handyman. I repeat: repair at your own risk.

DISCLAIMER 2: It is my suspicion, due to the poor design of this volume knob, this repair will need to be repeated every 6-9 months. I really hope I'm wrong.

Enjoy!
