In 1929 Richard Koret opened design and manufacturing house Koret, Inc in New York City. By 1935, the world knew Koret for his exquisite and feminine designs, unique fabrics and one-of-a-kind hardware. An esteemed master marketer, Koret traveled in social circles that helped him to develop and maintain relationships with famous celebrities who wore Koret's handbags. Koret was also one of the first to use extensive ad campaigns during his time. The campaigns used the famous leaping gazelle, which became the logo for the brand. Being a world traveler and savant in the french language, Koret traveled to London and Paris, sparking manufacturing partnerships over the years with luxury fashion houses such as Dior, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton and Pierre Cardin. After Koret's sudden death in 1965, Michael Gordon took over the company until the late 1990s. The brand was relaunched in 2012 as Koret new york.
