For you idealists out there, caught up in a never-ending pursuit of the meaning of life, this book is a "must read." Unfortunately, it is out of print. I borrowed a copy from the public library. But, I'll be tracking down a used copy to buy. I wish to read it again and again, as well as to lend it to as many young people as possible. It is the amazing true story of a young, German brother and sister who led the first organized resistance to Hitler within Germany itself. But, more than that, it is the story of several young people people who, by their early twenties, had lived their lives in such a way that they went to their deaths with smiles. I, in my thirties, had not gained the sense of self these young heroes discovered many years younger. This book literally sent me on a quest to find the difference I was created to make in this world. It changed my life. Be careful, it might do the same for you

This book was well written, intensely interesting,and I would recommend it to anyone interested in Germany's history in the 1930's and 40's. Written from the point of view of a German, it shows the disillusionment
of the Scholls, with Hitler and his atrocious Nazi regime.
I was inspired, and encouraged, to stand up against evil, just from reading this book.
Please read it. You'll be glad you did.

This study of the White Rose resistance movement under National Socialism of the Third Reich is a wonderful story that inspires the reader to question conformity. As a history, however, I found the objectivity of this source rather questionable. The author pumps up the resisters in such a manner that this account almost begins to sound like fiction. While there is no question that these resisters are noble, moral, and brave heroes for freedom and morality, this slant makes for a rather dubious history, as it suggests that historical evidence was approached with a strong bias.

All in all, this book represents a good read and an inspirational story as well as a thorough study. I do not, however, believe that it provides a reliable historical source on the White Rose.
