Roberto Bolano is deservedly the latest star in the Latim American Literary Frimament. His works encompass a wide range of subjects with a virtuosity in style. Novelita Lumpen is, in many ways, a stretched out short story about grief and its vulnerability to evil influences. For a non native reader, the style is clear and accessible. There is a simple conceit instead of a real plot but it is carried consistently with skill, with some images that resonate beneath the surface. A must for any Bolano devoted reader; a a fine introduction to his prose for others.,
