I recently read Swindoll's book on parenting, 'The Strong Family' and was encouraged and offered wisdom for my calling as a father of three teenage sons. When we built a new house last year, we scratched into the foundation's wet cement these words: 'By wisdom a house is built, by understanding it is established.' (Proverbs 24:3,4) This same verse stands as the foundation of Swindoll's writings, that by God's wisdom revealed in the Bible our families are built up and established.

Also recommended: The Family Cloister: Benedictine Wisdom for the Home, by David Robinson (NY: Crossroad, 2000)
