Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Joyce Tenneson is one of the leading photographers of her generation. Her work is published regularly in magazines worldwide, including Time, LIFE, Esquire, Newsweek, and The New York Times Magazine. She is the author of ten books, including the bestselling Wise Women. Through her workshops and lectures, Tenneson has made a tremendous impact on thousands of professional and amateur photographers. This is the first retrospective overview of Tenneson's thirty years in photography, showcasing her best work from the series Flower Portraits, Light Warriors, Illuminations, Wise Women, Amazing Men, and Intimacy, as well as unknown early photographs, self-portraits, and writings. Tenneson's portraits go beyond a surface recording of her subjects' likenesses. Her signature images -- studio portraits that wrap the sitter in an ethereal glow -- attempt to show the inner person behind the facade. "I want to allow others to reveal and celebrate aspects of themselves that are usually hidden," Tenneson has said. Joyce Tenneson: 30 Years in Photography will be an illuminating walk through the life and work of a unique talent in contemporary photography.

Vicki Goldberg is one of photography's most beloved and respected critics. She is the author of The Power of Photography: How Photographs Changed Our Lives and Light Matters, a collection of essays. Goldberg writes on photography and the arts for the New York Times, Vanity Fair, American Photo, and other publications.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking Work, August 10, 2008
Joyce Tenneson is a superb photographer/artist. This book covers the breadth of her work, starting from the beginning of her career. It includes excerpts from her other books, including "Wise Women", "Light Warriors", "Transformations" and "Illuminations". Well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joyce Tenneson as inspiration, May 2, 2009
I first learned about Joyce Tenneson in a beginning photography class. I subsequently purchased this book, refer to it regularly, and use it for inspiration to shoot interesting portraits. I am taking a self portraiture class this summer due, in part, to Ms. Tenneson's own self portrait work. While she has topical books on a single subject, this one is a bit of a sampler of her work. It's a great first Tenneson book. I expect to own more.

another look thru the eye of this wonderous world Ms. Tenneson sees. a most interesting history of her works and insights I love all of her books and I am not a photographer, but she draws me into her lens so instantly I have given her books to many of my friends as gifts and they are so grateful to see her work!
