Review
PRAISE FOR THE FRIDAY NIGHT KNITTING CLUB

“The book’s great—worth reading now.”
--Glamour

“If you are looking for an inviting group of gals to spend a few winter evenings with, pull up your afghan (you knitted it yourself, right?) and snuggle in with The Friday Night Knitting Club. Kate Jacobs’ breezy first novel reads like Steel Magnolias set in Manhattan. . . . Club makes you yearn for yarn, even if you’re not a knitter.” --Publishers Weekly

“Without resorting to stereotypical personalities or over-the-top plot twists . . . Jacobs does something unexpected—she changes things up, and [Club] goes from being a good book to being a really great story.” --Marie Claire

Product Description
In this smart, delicious novel by the bestselling author of The Friday Night Knitting Club, a celebrity chef shows her friends and family the joy of fulfillment— and manages to spice up her own life at the same time.

Shortly before turning the big 5-0, boisterous party planner and Cooking with Gusto! personality Augusta “Gus” Simpson finds herself planning a birthday party she’d rather not—her own. She’s getting tired of being the hostess, the mother hen, the woman who has to plan her own birthday party. What she needs is time on her own with enough distance to give her loved ones the ingredients to put together successful lives without her.

Assisted by a handsome up-and-coming chef, Oliver, Gus invites a select group to take an on-air cooking class. But instead of just preaching to the foodie masses, she will teach regular people how to make rich, sensuous meals—real people making real food. Gus decides to bring a vibrant cast of friends and family on the program: Sabrina, her fickle daughter; Troy, Sabrina’s ex-husband; Anna, Gus’s timid neighbor; and Carmen, Gus’s pompous and beautiful competitor at the Cooking Channel. And when she begins to have more than collegial feelings for her sous-chef, Gus realizes that she might be able to rejuvenate not just her professional life, but her personal life as well. . . .

Can’t wait to tell you about my new novel Comfort Food!

But first I want to extend heartfelt thanks to each one of you who recommended my first book, The Friday Night Knitting Club, to a friend or colleague, who posted such wonderful reviews here on Amazon, and who selected FNKC for your book clubs. You helped make my first novel a bestseller. THANK YOU!

After I finished that story, I thought a lot about what I wanted to write next. (Well, initially I took a little breather. But then I began thinking…) And I wanted Comfort Food to be just what the title implies: comforting and warm. Upbeat. Maybe even a little bit funny. My main goal with this new novel is to simply create an entertaining read. The kind of book you’ll want to curl up with and enjoy a bit of an escape from your busy day. Read it when you’re in bed. In a bubble bath. Or coming home on the subway while dreaming about taking a bubble bath. (That’s my love of New York coming through! There’s no reading while commuting now that I’ve moved to the West Coast and live in the SoCal suburbs. It’s all about driving out here.) But you get the idea.

Comfort Food is about the elegant host of a television cooking show, Augusta “Gus” Simpson, who is fending off an ambitious co-host while also dealing with personal issues with her two twentysomething daughters, Aimee and Sabrina. It’s a book about family, about friendships, about our frustrations in life and in work, and about the power of food to bring people together. I spent a lot of time in the kitchen when I was writing this one – all in the name of research, of course – and I procrastinated many an afternoon making chocolate chip cookies. (That’s my kind of comfort food.)

Plus there’s a related website you might enjoy visiting at www.comfortfoodnovel.com. Here, you can read the first chapter, connect with other readers on the message boards, check out recipes for dishes mentioned in Comfort Food, share your own culinary creations in the Recipe Share, and take the quizzes. Coming soon will be an online game. I love to play online games, especially when I’m between chapters, so I thought it would be cool to have a game that we could all play together.

And now I’d better get busy packing for the Comfort Food book tour. You can find dates and times at my website, www.katejacobs.com, for my upcoming events in Oakland, Pleasanton, Petaluma, Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, Lansing, Charlotte, Vancouver, and, of course, Hope, BC! (That’s where I was born and raised and I am always eager to sneak in a visit with friends and family. I’m particularly looking forward to attending my nephew’s birthday party!) If I’m not coming to your neck of the woods, then you can follow along as I blog about the tour here and on my website.

In the meantime, I hope you’ll take a bite of Comfort Food!

All best wishes,
Kate
