Terry O'Neill, photographer of Twiggy, Brigitte Bardot and Jeanne Moreau 'Witty, and very elegantly written... verbal Viagra.' Product Description
Why is it that French women look as glamorous in a T-shirt and pair of jeans as in a designer dress? What is the secret that keeps them sexy and attractive from eighteen or eighty? Why are they happiest when flirting? How do they stay pencil thin? And why do they seduce their best-friends' lovers? Helena Frith Powell goes deep undercover to expose the secrets of French beauty in this witty investigation in suspenders. Exploring French women's passion for looking and feeling good, she talks to experts on French womanhood - from the intellectuals of St Germain, to the proprietress of a designer sex shop for women, to the bra fitter in the lingerie rooms of an exclusive department store in Paris, where she says goodbye to her M &S's knickers forever. Packed with insights, she uncovers how French women achieve maximum effect with the least amount of effort through their passion for face-creams, suspenders and la petite aventure. Bin the books that tell you what to wear and what to eat. Find your inner French woman instead. Tempting, chic, persuasive, witty, "Two Lipsticks" is the ultimate style book that could radically change the way you look and, more importantly, think about yourself.

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh, pleeeeaaaase, March 16, 2008
By Gypsy (Tuscaloosa, AL) - See all my reviews
Sheesh... I've been living in Paris for about 7 months and got this book from another ex-pat. I thought it would be fun. I think it was really an excuse for the author to meet well known French women and get into exclusive/expensive stores. I found most of it to be pat, over generalized, contradictory and highly stereo-typed. The book describes a small percentage of French women, primarily the elite, but not necessarily. The average french woman is not as different as the book would have you believe. Yes, there are some truths in there: you will rarely see any french people, male or female, wearing sneakers unless they are on their way to or from some form of exercise. Yes, you will rarely see clinically overweight people, male or female. I think the author should have focused more on her own experiences and generalized a lot less. Peter Mayle did a much better job on this and his books are much more enjoyable.

3.0 out of 5 stars mildly entertaining, March 5, 2008

Nothing new. The book is just okay. Not as amusing as I thought it would be. Enjoyed Paris to the Moon a lot more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Same book different title, March 15, 2009
By R. Thomas "RT" (Dallas, TX USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book was very well-researched and written and I enjoyed it tremendously; however, last week I received a copy <<All You Need to Be Impossibly French>> by the same authorAll You Need to Be Impossibly French: A Witty Investigation into the Lives, Lusts, and Little Secrets of French Women As I sat down to read the book, much to my astonishment and disappointment, I quickly discovered that I had already read this book under the title <<Two Lipsticks and a Lover>>. While I truly enjoyed <<Two Lipsticks>> I found this to be somewhat disconcerting. Evidently this same text has been published by two different publishers with two different titles.

I did enjoy the text when I read it the first time under the title <<Two Lipsticks. . .>> so yes I do recommend the book even with two different titles.
