Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

On this effort, Bill Janovitz's well-respected, hard-touring trio turns in a tight, tuneful fifth album. "Summer" has a raw edge and nostalgic mood that sets it apart from more obvious surf's-up anthems. Highlights: "It's You," "Tangerine," and the Paul Westerberg-style "When You Discover." --Jeff Bateman

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the finest late Summer evening albums of all time..., March 13, 2000
By Jimbob (London, UK) - See all my reviews
Imagine the smell of freshly cut grass, creosote and barbecue cooking. Imagine the taste of a cool beer in the evening shade, accompanied by a perfunctory spliff. Imagine Sleepy Eyed, Buffalo Tom's best album to date and stuffed with blistering anthems and cool ballads. Endlessly playable and a major improvement on the leaden Big Red Letter Day and the even worse follow up Smitten. The likes of Crueler, Sunday Night and Summer easily rank with Tailights Fade as the best Buffalo Tom songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why this is one of the best CDs ever..., January 23, 2004

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Irish Indie music "2FM" radio Presenter Dave Fanning rated this is as the #1 best album between 1995 and 1998.

What does that mean?

Plenty since this guy was co-founder of U2 and helped launch their career.

BT is nothing like U2 but listen to "Summer" from this CD and you will see how catchy they are. This is an A+ album. All the tracks are fantastic. It will have you hooked.

5.0 out of 5 stars More people should hear this album, June 16, 2000
By "saint_77" (Melbourne) - See all my reviews
What's not to like about Buffalo Tom? Admittedly, this was the first record of theirs I picked up so I don't know if this is better than their previous stuff. 'Sleepy Eyed' hasn't got the 'twangy' country feel of Wilco, and thankfully it's not as mellow as Matchbox 20, but it strangely ends up sounding something like a combination of those aforementioned bands. Accessible rock tunes that are easily hummable abound on this album. The opening singles Tangerine (which sounds like it could have been a Top 40 hit) and Summer, the graceful ballad 'Sunday Night' and the closer 'Crueler' are indicative of the quality tunes you'll find here. This fine record is as enjoyable to listen to now as it was the first time I heard it.
