5.0 out of 5 stars She's great, she's blunt and she ROCKS!!!!, October 14, 2004
I didn't know about Tracy Bonham until a friend of mine showed me her song, "Mother Mother". I didn't know what to think at first, and kind of filed away in my memory.

Then I heard the song "Bulldog". I listened to the song, and it really can be taken the wrong way, and I actually think she meant it that way. I fell in love with her after that song. I have access to both of her albums, and am eagerly awaiting her next album.

She's blunt, she has a great voice and she simply rocks. Typical rock, but with her own bit of flair, making the music truly unique. I think the most unique aspect of her songs is what she sings about. In "Sharks Cant's Sleep", she talks about seeing sharks eating men, and then she ate a man.....and that's not okay. If you see the video...her expression is simply hilarious. She gives you a kind of...sweet smile. Of course, you can't hate her so much for it, because, she knows it wasn't okay. *grins*

Hurry, when I wrote this review, only 5 were left in stock! Hurry up and buy one! You won't regret it! I promise you! Just listen to her music with a slightly....demented frame of mind, and you just might understand them better.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Burdens of Being Good, October 15, 2004
Like most people, the song that drew me to this album was "Mother, Mother". My own mother found it rather amusing that this woman on the radio was shrieking about being fine.

I was young when I got it, 12 I think. I didn't understand the meanings of most of the songs, but it didn't matter. Tracy has an undeniable talent, and her songs are compelling even for young'uns like I was.

She tangles melodies in her violin strings and belts a voice out of her 5'2 frame that belongs in someone taller and fatter. Her messages may be confusing but what is good rock without...interesting lyrics?

Tracks to check out: Mother, Mother; Brain Crack; Bulldog. There are more but I can't think of them right now.

4.0 out of 5 stars UNDERRATED AND UNDER APPRECIATED, February 19, 2003
By Daniel J. Hagerman "milkboydanny" (barnegat, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
the burdens of being upright is one amazing trip of a record. i think its only flaw is that at times it is a little too derivative. "tell it to the sky" comes off like black hole sun era soundgarden and "navy bean" is one great rocking riff but, to me, is very nirvana circa incesticide. there is also the radio candy hit "mother mother" which is one great song. smart, toungue in cheek humor with great music to back it up.
i see alot of reviewers did not like her voice but i find tracy a good singer, capable if singing and really belting out a good scream when the song calls for it. there were a couple of weaker songs but all in all this is a good cd.

It's a decent album but she seems to copy riffs a bit on this album. Mother Mother definitly rips of Stairway To Heaven from Stairway's ending vocals riff. Read more
