5.0 out of 5 stars Mellow Back Porch Blues, February 9, 2000
By Yann Taylor (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
They say don't judge a book by its cover, but I just couldn't resist the photo of John Dee Holeman with a big ol' grin on his face, a cigarette hanging fom his mouth and a National Steel Guitar in his hands. From the country blues, with some wonderful acoustic guitar and lyrics that'll bring a smile to your face. Beautiful renditions of blues classics (Robert Johnson's Sweet Home Chicago) are mixed in some of John Dee's own tunes. Taj Mahal makes a guest appearance, providing backing on some of the tracks. John Dee picks you up in his arms, takes you to the South and just doesn't let go. A rare treat indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for any music fan, July 10, 2005
By Buddy "ottocat2" (West Lafayette, IN USA) - See all my reviews
This CD is a wonderful recording and shows true and honest blues. As a member of the Music Maker Relief Organization based in Hillsborough North Carolina, John Dee Holeman is an unknown master of blues guitar, and has a unique and powerful singing voice. Born in NC in 1929, John Dee Holeman learnded directly from Blind Boy Fuller. He has won many awards, and this CD shows why. He is a great guitar player, and a passionate singer. Encorporating both Piedmont and Texas blues guitar styles John Dee Holeman is a truely unique artist. I highly reccommend this CD, and it should not be missed.
