Biography

Extol first got together in early 1994 with the intentions of starting a death metal band that showed more of a progressive side; rather than atypical run of the mill group of burnout's who focused more on their image. Adding to their influences of classical music, jazz, goth and acts such as Iron Maiden, Man-o-War, Napalm Death and Morbid Angel, Peter Espevoll (vocal), Christer Espevoll (guitar),… Read more in Amazon's Extol Store

5.0 out of 5 stars The Latest And Greatest From The Norwegian Masters Of Metal!, January 8, 2000
Extol is good, and getting better. Ole Borud is simply one of the best guitarists around, and David Husvik's drums are nothing short of INCREDIBLE. The vocals near the end of the first track are awesome: low, guttural growls, the way Death Metal was meant to be. One of the biggest things that separates Extol from mainstream Death Metal bands is the lyrics, Extol songs are obviously Christian; not the depressing, I-wish-I-was-cool, style that so many secular bands have. This CD is Progressive Death/Black Metal at its best.

5.0 out of 5 stars European Black Metal for Christians, December 3, 1999
By Caleb Leland (The Jedi Council) - See all my reviews
Don't be distracted by the fact that these guys are Christians. The guitar-driven tracks on this CD are some of the heaviest songs I've heard in a long time. If you love bands like Celtic Frost, Enslaved, & Sepultura, you'll love these guys.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extol is mesmerizing !, April 21, 2000
By Dave (Washington, USA) - See all my reviews
I haven't been much into black metal, but when I first played this it all came to me, this cd is awesome. Fast drumming, stunning vocals and gripping guitars. It only has 6 songs, but for 6 bucks it's a good deal. And every song is good. I highly recommend this cd. If you like Borgir or Simon Dimmu, this would be an excellent alternative. What's most catching is how good and talented they are, for a new band that is young. If you like hard metal that's a different than what's average get this cd.

4.0 out of 5 stars What's with the remixes?
Alright the first 3 songs are very good. A little heavier than what you would've heard from Burial, but basically, musically, not much of a change. Read more

Oh how I love this EP. It sounds like it could've been one for Undecieved. The three new songs are very good, and show that Extol is awesome as always. Read more

Remix albums are very hit and miss. I could care less about the remixes here, but the originals, especially "The Prodigal Son" and "Storms of Delusions" are AMAZING. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST BUY
Death Metal fans are going to love this. The guitar work is fast and brilliantly thought out. The singing is high and beatiful and then is screamed low and scratchy. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A step up, if possible, from their awesome debut!
I'm rating this based on the previously unreleased tracks, not the remixes. The new songs are every bit as inspiring and brutal as the songs from 'Burial'. Read more
