5.0 out of 5 stars Power pop! They're great both live and in the studio., November 28, 2000
By "britpoptart" (Atlanta, Georgia) - See all my reviews
They are an Atlanta-area band, but with a charismatic lead singer hailing from Devon, you'd be forgiven for mistaking them for 'genuine homegrown' Britpop.

The band members are more than capable of playing their instruments: they all have good influences and genuine talent. It's sad that you have to make a point of saying so, but if you've heard the poo on the radio lately, then perhaps the heads up is appreciated. Again: yes, they can REALLY play.

"Without You" is just about the catchiest song I've heard all year.

"Gettaway" has been a live concert favourite and loses nothing in its transition to disk.

It lives in my CD case and is especially appreciated on long car trips.

Bottom line? It will make you happy. Buy it for yourself or for someone else you like a lot.

Their first (also excellent) CD is nearly impossible to find these days and they are about to start pushing an upcoming third full-length CD. If you think you might want this one, better get it while you can.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overlooked Gem, October 15, 2003
By Lee Armstrong (Winterville, NC United States) - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Tender Idol's "Step On Over" is an overlooked gem of a CD. This Atlanta-based band's sound is firmly rooted in British pop traditions. Ian Webber and David Cobb's vocals give a breezy flare to these melody-laden catchy pop tunes. The title tune is a thundering rocker with distorted vocals, "The sunshine's coming back & I feel my heart attack; don't you wanna know what real love feels like? Well take it on home." "The Fall" opens with a long intro and opens a soft melancholy tune. "How You Feeling Now" is a dreamy midtempo guitar wash, "When your life is getting down, she's the love that I believe in." "Without You" is a beautiful pop tune with Danny Howe's gentle touch on electric guitar. "Dear You" has a McCartney-like sweetness. The set concludes with a biting remix of the title track. This is a very strong set for those of us who like a bit melody with our rock & roll. Enjoy!

These guys are really flogging a long-dead horse. Not only that, but they're all pushing 40. It's better to burn out....
