Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Like former Eve's Plum singer Colleen "Vitamin C" Fitzpatrick, Stella "Soleil" Katsoudas has alternative sort-of credibility to live down. To do so, Dirty Little Secret, which follows Katsoudas's work with TRL faves Ministry, Die Warzau, and Chemlab, borrows Fitzpatrick's template for ever-so-slightly edgy pop that's nonetheless kid-friendly in an ever-so-slightly naughty way. Where Vitamin C offered an ode to "Graduation Day," Soleil aims to incite juniors and seniors with "Stand Up," a post-prom theme that firmly posits that the celebrants can stay up all night while implying that nothing riskier than a dance party is on the agenda. Similarly, "Pretty Young Thing" tempers its lust with a marriage proposal, while Soleil's wish for an "Imperfect" boy suggests a yearning for a Josh Hartnett type who just happens to forget to comb his hair sometimes. Even "Angel Face," the sexiest song here, is as PG-rated as a typical episode of Dawson's Creek. All this goes by in a flash of stylistic borrowings from Madonna and Britney (and lest we forget, the Turkish hit here overhauled into "Kiss Kiss"). Dirty Little Secret is hardly built to last, but like its pinup-ready frontwoman, it's well built nonetheless. --Rickey Wright

5.0 out of 5 stars stella's great on her own, May 25, 2001

(REAL NAME)
I loved her in Sister Soleil. I was listening to the radio one day and I heard "Kiss Kiss" and I knew it must be her, then I found out she made an album on her own called Dirty Little Secret. This album is amazing for someone that wants something a little different from the norm and someone that gets tired of the same old pop music. She has a unique and varied vocal style combined with interesting lyrics and music. I say if you're open to something new and exciting try this one out. Be sure to also check her out in Sister Soleil.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Dirty Little Secret" is an honest pleasure, October 11, 2001
By Demon Puppet (Green Bay, WI USA) - See all my reviews
After enjoying Stella Soleil as candy raver in her debut album--"Drown Me in You", and glitter angel with an attitude in her second--"Soularium", it is refreshing to experience another self-transformation...Surprise! Now this changeling is cool platinum. This erotic album is inspired, graceful, clean, clear and succeeds in piercing the heart. Stella performs her songs seemingly without effort, a fish in water. Sexy and brazen, she shoots straight from the hip. Danceable rhythms that fit like your favorite shirt. Street wise without being cynical. "Dirty Little Secret" is an honest pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure ear candy, May 29, 2001
I first remember hearing Stella Soleil when she was in Sister Soleil. When I saw the video for "Kiss Kiss", I knew right from the get go that this was the same chick from Sister Soleil. I personally like this album. It is upbeat and just fun to listen to. My favorite tracks are "Kiss Kiss", "Pretty Young Thing" and "Imperfect". Those tracks really stand out for me. At times Stella's vocals reminded me a bit of Ani Difranco with electronic beats. I think you either like Stella Soleil or you don't like her, and I for one like what I've heard from her as a solo artist.
