Biography

Progressive hardcore band Boy Sets Fire was formed in Delaware in 1994 by singer Nathan Gray, guitarists Josh Latshaw and Chad Istvan, bassist Darrell Hyde, and drummer Matt Krupanski. Self-releasing their debut single, "Consider," in 1995, Boy Sets Fire soon resurfaced with a split release with Jazz Man's Needle, winning acclaim not only for the intensity of their live dates but also the… Read more in Amazon's Boy Sets Fire Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Who cares what label they're on..., August 26, 2001
By Brad "onething2live" (Hayward, CA United States) - See all my reviews
I do not own the re-issue version of this CD I have the original Victory Records version (the only difference is a slight variation in the cover art and the bonus track on the wind-up release) this is a great punk/emo/hardcore release. Boy Sets Fire play intense music; each song has powerful emotions and driving personal politics. The title and opening track "After the Eulogy" is probably the the most fierce opening song I have ever heard. And the next song "Rookie" is almost pop-punk (take that hardcore elite!). Mix in a emo song like "My Life in the Knife Trade" and you got an album every punk/hardcore/emo kid should love; oh yeah if all those hardcore kids out there could quit being so pretentious about things like who is releasing the album and just listen to the music (I know you were listening Korn just two months ago)... oh yeah and remeber that band Earth Crisis they were on the major label roadrunner, along with Shelter, and lets not forget Sick of it All's stint on a major label.

5.0 out of 5 stars drowning pool rules??!!, October 9, 2001
By Nathan M. Ross (New England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Hardcore poseur types, and you say you like drowning pool.. enough said. Anyway, this album is awesome! When I first heard this album, it was after I downloaded the mp3s. I immediately went out and bought the cd at Record Town. Yeah, so I paid like $20, and still thought it was worth it. I still do. Mellow parts, heavy as brass balls parts. Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece, May 25, 2002
By Hunter Westfield "Hunter" (Marietta, GA United States) - See all my reviews
This is Boy Sets Fire's second full-length album and they have matured greatly since their first. Allmusic Guide feared that "The Day the Sun Went Out" would be their best, but they have actually outdone themselves. There are NO bad tracks on this album, my least favorite is the poppish "When Rhetoric Dies," but to have no bad tracks is an amazing feat for a band these days. The styles of their music vary a lot as well. It is hard to place BSF, but usually they are called EmoCore. Their songs go straight from hardcore ("After the Eulogy") to softer, emo songs ("My Life in the Knife Trade") to stuff that could sit next to Pantera ("The Force Majeure"). It is a great album and they switch style seemlessly. Get it today!
