5.0 out of 5 stars John Nitzinger Finally Gets Long Overdue Box Set Treatment!, September 21, 2001
By Dale Beaver Tink "Dale" (Newport, PA United States) - See all my reviews
Having been a fan of John Nitzinger since discovering his work with Texas hard rockers Bloodrock circa 1970, I was naturally delighted to discover this newly released imported box set of Nitzinger's classic first 3 albums on CD... with added bonus tracks, no less! Equally impressive to the sound on the discs themselves is the meticulous attention to detail that has been given to the packaging of this fantastic set! Without question, I must say that the entire package, from the reproduction of the 3 "mini-album covers" with gatefold covers to the large colorful lyric sheets and photos, this is absolutely the most beautiful box set I have ever had the pleasure to own! (My personal CD collection is very extensive with including many nice box sets.) Needless to say, musically, Nitzinger has never sounded better and the bonus tracks included on each disk (12 in all) are a real treat! The live verson of Jellyroll Blues from the Mar Y Sol Festival in Puerto Rico in 1972 finally appears, as does a number of re-recorded classic Nitzinger tracks that have apparently been taken from the Fingers In The Fan ('99) release. This box set is a dream come true for any hard rock or blues fan even if you have not discovered Nitzinger over the past 30 years. If you love straight ahead hard rock and roll in the vein of early Bloodrock, Jim Rutledge, Lee Pickens or even ZZ Top, you surely will enjoy Nitzinger. Congratulations to AKARMA Records for an absolutely superb job with John in the Box! It will not disappoint!
