Editorial Reviews
Product Description
This record was first heard on the 2002 soundtrack 'Donnie Darko' & this release has been much awaited since then. Roland Orzabel who wrote 'Mad World' & had a hit with it in 'Tears For Fears' has said that this version is much better than the original. The vocals by Gary Jules compliment the haunting piano riffs beautifully & proves why it is a clear favorite on the soundtrack. The title track is backed with 'No Poetry' (from Jules' 2001 album 'Trading Snakeoil for Wolftickets') & 'Mad World' (Alternative Version from 'Donnie Darko' Soundtrack). Sanctuary. 2003.

5.0 out of 5 stars REALLY GREAT!, August 19, 2004
By R. Tyson (Bartow, Fl. (Really in a different World)!) - See all my reviews

After watching Donnie Darko (several times) I ordered MAD WORLD by Michael Andrews - Gary Jules and really love this music. It sticks in your head and sorta makes everyday problems seem less important or something! I highly recommend this for sure. Believe me I have bought alot worse :)

5.0 out of 5 stars The UK Christmas No. 1, December 22, 2003
Originally done by Tears For Fears (nope, never heard of them either), and then the final haunting track on the equally haunting track on Donnie Darko, this has been released. And has become the Christmas no.1 in the UK, beating the likes of The Darkness and the Pop Idol finalists to become the coveted no.1. In the past, we've had Westlife, Spice Girls, and God help us, Bob the Builder AND Mr. Blobby as the Christmas no.1. This song beats them all. It has no special computer effects, no dance moves, just a voice full of emotion backed by a simple piano. Gary Jules voice is just perfect for this song. Apparently an artist in the US, its the first us in the UK have ever heard of him, and in my opinion, we'll be wanting to hear more. It's the most unusual song that could have gone to the top of the charts, especially at Christmas, but has been getting a lot of airplay. It has been one of the closest races for the Christmas no.1, with Gary Jules up against The Darkness. It was neck & neck for most of the week, and Gary Jules narrowly pipped them to the post. A Christmas no.1 that will be remembered for a lot longer than Bob the Builder or Mr Blobby. Good grief.
